The Misery Index

You may recall during the Carter presidency, we had something called The Misery Index, a quick-and-dirty measure of how the US was doing, economically.  It was simple addition, the current unemployment rate plus the current inflation rate.

Today, the unemployment rate is 6.1 percent.  The current US inflation rate is 4.2 percent. Adding those gives us a misery index of 10.3.  The last time the Misery Index was over 10.0 was during the last months of the GW Bush presidency.

Ol' Joe ain't doing us any favors.

And sadly if you research the true stats on inflation and unemployment such as Shadowstats website inflation is closer to 10% and unemployment more like 12% . Can't blame Old Joe though . He ain't running anything .
