Lambda?

It seems that there is another variant of the Wu-Flu coming.  First identified in Peru, it is spreading across South America.  The Lambda variant, and it appears to be resistant to the Covid vaccine.

The Lambda variant of the coronavirus, first identified in Peru and now spreading in South America, is highly infectious and more resistant to vaccines than the original version of the virus the emerged from Wuhan, China

Oh, joy!

From what I've read, there are a bunch of variants. Trying to chase each one is foolish.
What they don't mention, is that later variants are almost always weaker than the original variant. Look at Ebola and many other diseases; severity goes down, contagion often, but not always, goes up.

Sigh... never ending... THAT is the nature of a virus that mutates. Delta is more survivable, I'm betting Lambda will be more survivable yet.

This is why there are no vaccines against the various strains of the common cold, which is also a corona-style virus.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of corona style viruses.

Your beloved dog carries several types in their gut. They can cause your dog to have the canine equivalent of colds, flu, etc.

However, they are generally not transmissible to humans.

PAwpaw,

From the article link you posted:

Among fully vaccinated people who never had COVID-19, getting a third dose of an mRNA vaccine from Pfizer (PFE.N)/BioNTech or Moderna (MRNA.O) would likely increase levels of antibodies, but not antibodies that are better able to neutralize new virus variants, Rockefeller University researchers reported on Thursday on bioRxiv ahead of peer review.
They note that in COVID-19 survivors, the immune system's antibodies evolve during the first year, becoming more potent and better able to resist new variants.
