About That Ammo Shortage

It's hyper demand.  Everyone is looking or ammo, and no one has any.  And, the Remigton plant in Arkansas is shut down for bankruptcy.  From the American Rifleman:

A friend at Hornady recently reached out to me to ask that I spread the word. What’s going on with ammunition is nothing sinister, nor a conspiracy. It is simple supply-and-demand. In fact, it's hyper-inflated demand like no one has ever seen. I certainly haven't in the 30 years that I've been paying attention to such things.

This past year has been a dumpster fire of a pandemic, piled on  a shit-storm of civil unrest, and now we're faced with a train-wreck of a Biden administration.  Talking to folks I know in the business, we can't expect it to get any better in 2021.  CFDA shooters are having trouble finding their favorite shotgun primers. I was able to get enough put aside for a maor match I'm hoping to host in 2021,so that is covered, but if supplies don't start loosening up later this year, we might have to start using domestic primers, which are not preferred for CFDA shooting.

Almost universally, we shoot Rio, Fiocchi, Nobel, Cheddite,  or Wolf primers.  Even the supplies of those has dried up over the past year.

Thanks for posting that. I'll pass it on.

Personally, I blame the "Fudds" for at least part of the problem.

They have no idea what a box of 9mm 115gr FMJ SHOULD cost, and they have money, so they don't blink at $49/50 rds. They just want their new G19 and a couple hundred rds of ammo. Because Antifa......

Give me a break. If the "FUDDS" you badmouth are the problem, than there would be no problem. YOU have no understanding of "Fudds" AS the nick name implies, they are primarily old-school hunters. The TRUE Fudd will NOT have a semi-auto M4 look alike to feed, nor would he show up at a local INDOOR range with same, put a target out at 7 yards, and proceed to to attempt to ventilate that paper as fast as he can doing a "mag dump" , after which he will have learned nothing about his weapon or how to shoot WELL. A Fudd will likely have a bolt action rifle with which he is well familiar, and if he has five twenty round boxes of ammo for same, that would be four boxes and four rounds more than he would likely use in a year. He MIGHT have a handgun ( but not have much use for one ). It would likely be a revolver ( unless he collects them, which is common ) maybe a 1911 variant unless pulling the slide back against the recoil spring has become an issue due to injury or other acquired difficulties. It will NOT be a polymer framed gun in all likelihood. To be brief on shotguns, it is not going to be one of those odd bull-0pup looking things , nor one of those "any other weapon" evasions, it may be camo covered, but the only tactical thing about it will be that it is suitable for the specific GAME ANIMALS to be hunted with same. Again, uselessly burning ammo is NOT what they do. The folks who put the biggest burden on the ammo +6supply in the free market, are the Knuckleheads. The ones who do little more than make a lot of useless noise while NOT gaining skill. THAT IS THEIR RIGHT, OF COURSE. But it IS useless.

Dear Anonymous,

I never said the Fudds were ALL of the problem, I said they were PART of the problem. There are many sides to this supply/demand problem of guns & ammo.

And, you and I apparently have different ideas about what Fudd means......or there is more than one type of Fudd.

The kind I'm talking about are not the "old school hunters".

I'm talking about the non-shooters who were never anti-gun, they just didn't feel the need for a firearm...... until Antifa and BLM raised their ugly heads, and blue city mayors didn't deal with it, putting the citizens at risk.
Those Fudds are newbies, or returnees, to gun ownership; often they have plenty of disposable income, and no experience on what guns/ammo cost in recent yrs. They just know that they need to look after themselves now, because their elected officials are not going to.
Which guys like me and Pawpaw have been trying to tell them for........decades. It took Antifa, riots, and COVID to really get their attention.

Personally, I welcome them to the fold: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend", and all that.
