Last week I was listening to a podcast about egg prices. Evidently, they are up.
Past weekend, the ladies in the family were talking about egg prices. They are definitely up.
Belle sent me to the store this morning. I paid $5.33 for a dozen white, large eggs. Not the brown, free-range eggs. The standard white eggs. Five dollars and thirty-three cents. Before tax.
Evidently there has been an outbreak of avian flu in the egg laying population. Fewer chickens, fewer eggs.

I get 14 -16 eggs a day from my unregistered backyard flock, and sell my surplus unwashed "farm fresh' (meaning unrefrigerated) for $4.00 per dozen. We also eat a lot of them.
Unregistered means the gubmint agriculture goon squads do not know they exist, therefore they would be trespassers if caught on my property to "test" and possibly cull my flock. Such trespassers would be treated as harmful varmints harassing livestock and disposed of accordingly.
Eh. The avian flu was impactful a while ago, might have some impacts today but the real cost rachet is to produce the eggs and get them to market is more expensive. Fuel costs being there, both in the import of grain to the farm and sending the eggs to market. Turns out when inflation hits, it hits everyone and the end consumer gets hit more than once, every layer there's inflation that's generally got to be passed on. Your eggs are cheaper there, here they are pushing 8 bucks a dozen depending on the store. The current despots running the show would love to point it all to avian flu but that's but one part of the situation.
@Jester: Here in Kommiecticut, state officials encourage us folks with small backyard flocks to register the birds with the state and allow inspections to test for avian flu. I don't know anyone that participates. What they don't say in their PSA's is if it is found all birds will be destroyed, too bad for you. Therefore, I maintain my stance to protect my flock. A trespassing inspector needs to ask themselves if they value their job more than their life. They would be given the opportunity to leave and never return.
Harsh? Extreme? I think not. They would be messing with my food supply, and is no different than stealing directly from my pantry or refrigerator.
Avian flu test are performed by..... wait for it.... PCR! Thats right, the same scam they used to test EVAHBODY positive with KungFlu also miraculously tests every farm positive for bird flu (if you crank the cycles up high enough). Millions of healthy birds have been slaughtered for a government agenda against their own people.

You are being scammed by health officials in your own government. They know its a scam, they know they are scamming you, and they will continue to do it to protect their retirement until you are willing to start shooting them in the face. We don't have to kill all of them. About a half dozen dead bodies with notes tied around their necks (cartel style, from the highway overpass on the beltway!) aught to scare the rest of the gubmint employees into early retirement.... whos with me?!
I agree with you. Sadly so many other Americans do not. They will cheer as the orcs in battle rattle enforce the county health inspectors smalldickenergy mandate. You, your family, and your dog will all be shot dead, and the snooze media will label you a right wing terrorist who got what he deserved.
And half the country will silently nod in assent.
Prolly closer to 2/3rds by my reckoning, but it is what it is.
There must be a regional component. I paid $4.75 for an 18 pack I’m WA. Generally things are more expensive here than in rural LA.
