Joe sent me this video of an officer involved shooting in West Los Angeles.
Fairly standard scenario. Someone calls in a perp who is waving a knife and scaring passers-by. Officers respond. Perp charges cop with knife in hand. Cop shoots perp. Other officers respond, take perp into custody, take perp to hospital. Perp declared dead. Too bad, so sad.

That was damned close. Hard to be accurate with the angle of the civilian's phone, but it seems there were maybe only 6 feet between them when the officer went down backwards. Just as lethal to get stabbed by a gunshot man.
