There is no doubt that Biden stepped it it, diplomatically speaking, when he said that Putin could not remain in power. That was a bone-headed statement that could cost the NATO alliance and the Ukraine people dearly. When he said that Putin had to go, along with the comets to US troops that they would see things in Ukraine, he may have escalated the entire war.
Some very intelligent people think that Putin was looking for a way out. They may be right. Putin is a rational person who considered his options carefully. He may be evil, but he is rational. However, leaving him no way out is a disastrous move.
Vladimir Putin has been informed reliably by the Western alliance that his exit — which in his case possibly includes a firing squad — is the price for peace.
Putin is not willing to pay that price. Our President, by his off-the-cuff remarks, may have backed Putin into a corner, and he might come out swinging.
