Concerning the lab leak theory that was floated recently, some folks are warning us that it might be a distraction campaign to keep us from asking other questions. Let's remember that this was leaked from a classified report, and that leads to question about the nature of the leak itself. Who leaked it, and why?
Others have asked why the Dept of Energy was even interested in the question. Well, the Dept of Energy is interested in a lot of things that we might not surmise. They run the National Laboratories like Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos. Which means that we have a lot of geeks asking interesting questions and trying to figure out the answers.
Why didn't the CDC or NIH break the story? Well, because many believe that they were funding this research in violation of laws about gain-of-function research. If CDC or NIH broke it, then it might complicate Tony Fauci's life with indictments, imprisonment, loss of pension and other distasteful problems. To have Fauci discredited would be a huge blow to the left.
This story cuts the Gordian knot of the Covid pandemic. Many of us suspected as much, but now the truth is coming out. The question is why now? And what are they trying to distract us from seeing?

The virus was created by Ralph Baric and his team at UNC Chapel Hill, one gain of function creation from the many created there. Wuhan Bat Lady Shi Zhengli was on that team. When they finally created a monster, their "chimeric virus", that had such a strong gain of function they were scared, Obama said No Mas. At which point they packed it up and snuck it over to Wuhan via Canada (in somebody's socks in their luggage IIRC), and further tweaked and polished. Most of the background info was in a paper at nature dot com on chimeric viruses. All the terms you learned about and feared - spike protein, furin cleavage site, etc are in that paper. A couple years after publication, an update to that paper at Nature was added that showed they were funded by Team Fauci. Maybe Baric's people didn't create the actual final original version, but they built it 98% of the way.
This was KNOWN since the earliest days of "nCov19", back before it was called SARS-Cov-2, back when the wet market theory first appeared and the UK Daily Mail ran the story about the OTHER bat virus research lab that was just 300 meters SE of the wet market. That lab has been disappeared.
There were satellite photos from October-ish 2019 showing the suddenly empty parking lot at the lab and the suddenly full parking lot at the nearby hospital. It was surmised that this is about when the "lab leak" occurred, although it is highly probable that deliberate minor releases happened before this, as several people around the world seem to have caught and survived the 'rona months before it officially existed.
Oh, and don't forget that the Covid-19 that infected the world was NOT the original virus, but several mutations downstream, and this is a virus that has always become weaker as it mutated. Remember bodies in the street in Wuhan? Virulent bio-weapon or street theater?

Ft. Detrick is where it was cooked up. They got it from some camel herders in Saudi Arabia who showed up at the hospital one day with unknown upper respiratory problems... saudis isolated it and gave it to us military to figure out, cuz they're dumb camel fuckers, and the rest is history, as they say!
