Dewey beats Truman

You know, the last time that the mainstream media was in the bag over a presidential candidate, they actually printed newspapers early trumpeting victory.

It's easy to see how that worked out. It ain't over until it's over. Dewey learned that, as did Gore.

It ain't over till it's over.

The secret to Truman's success was the sluggishness of the Tom Dewey and Strom Thurmond Campaigns, whom History has shown to be more competant to be President.

Truman, author of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, was an active campaigner using whistlestop train rides as his tool. As Dewey sat on his buttox, Truman turned things around. The best chance to stop Truman was an active Dewey Campaign.

Ironically, a Dewey Victory would have required a coalition with Thurmond to win with the Constitutional Tie-Break method in the House of Representatives. The issue would have become how to form the government. A Thurmond Government would have certainly made Dewey the Attorney General, but what use Dewey would have for Thurmond was uncertain. This would explain Dewey's negligent campaign.

Actually, the Truman-Dewey-Thurmond Election was much closer than people think. The fact that Thurmond was excluded from the Illinois and Ohio ballots was critical to the Election of Truman. Thurmond would have easily picked up at least 50,000 votes in these States with their Copperhead Tradition, and that would have denied Truman the majority of Electoral Votes. That would have sent the Decision to the House of Representatives, where a Dewey-Thurmond Coalition would have prevailed.
