To solve the serious problems facing our country, we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions. I had good Democratic friends tell me that they were afraid that President Bush was going to suspend elections and refuse to leave the White House when his term was over. I poo-pooh'd the idea, because I knew that George W. Bush was an honorable man. But, now we've got two prominent Democrats telling us that we really shouldn't have so much democracy in this country. It's a narrative folks, and not one that a patriot can long stand.
