Hey Clyburne! You Lose

Someone please tell James Clyburn that he just lost the argument.

House Majority Whip: US 'on track to repeat' Nazi Germany, downplays inflation ahead of midterms

According to Godwin's Law, if you invoke the Nazis, you lose.

These are coming so fast and furious that I'm having to schedule postings.  Tuesday is going to be a hoot.

Undecided Voters

I understand that there was a debate in Pennsylvania last night, and that it was a complete train-wreck for John Fetterman.  But, at this late stage of the election cycle, I wonder how many undecided voters there are in Pennsylvania?  I know nothing about politics in that state, but I know that for the local races we will decide in Louisiana, voters have already made up their minds.  In fact, we are already voting.

Pennsylvania is a tight race. The choice between Fetterman and Oz is stark.  The choice has been stark since the beginning of the race and has not really changed.  Oz is a physician and Fetterman is a career politician.  Fetterman is a Democrat and Oz is a Republican.  Oz seems to have control of his mental faculties and Fetterman is a stroke patient.  That is not Fetterman's fault, and I wish him a clear and complete recovery, bnut that does not change the fact.

In other news, evidently Hillary Clinton has actually read the Constitution and has learned that the state legislatures control the US Presidential election.  Who knew?  It comes as a bit of a shock to her.

According to Hillary Clinton, less than two years after the “fairest and most secure election in history,” the 2024 presidential election is on the verge of being stolen.

Hillary is like the herpes of American politics.  The immune system beats it down, but never really kills it. Then, once the body politic lets its guard down, it erupts again causing discomfort and pain among the afflicted.

A Dark Hour

I watched it this morning on CSPAN.  Last night, our President gave a primetime speech.  It was dark and disturbing.  Lit by blood red floodlights, with uniformed Marines in the background, Biden railed against half of America.

Evidently, MAGA Republicans are a huge threat to democracy.  Biden claimed to be the president of ALL Americans, excerpt, you know, for those MAGA Republicans.

It was bizarre.

What Are We Going TO Do ABout Joe?

That seems to be the question some of the Democrat power-brokers are asking about Joe Biden.

Common political wisdom is that the Dems are going to take a shellacking in the mid-terms . (Note to Republicans; don't get cocky) Historically, presidents have lost support during the midterm elections.  Americans seem to enjoy divided government power.  But, with numbers as low as Joe's, it looks like he is a first term lame duck.

First, we can expect a steady drumbeat of media stories such as the latest from mainstream political reporter Ronald Brownstein. His latest headline: “Is Biden a Man Out of Time?” What Brownsteain’s article makes clear is that the media and the Democratic base wish Biden would be even more aggressively leftist and polarizing.

They may be planning a tipple-envelopment, with the media on one side, the party on the other, and his very own cabinet administering the coup de grace.  The only question then is "What do we do about Kamala?"

Evidently

Evidently, I'm one of those new Biden enemies.  You know, the Ultra-MAGA crowd?

I'll need to look around for a hat.

Gotta Give Him Credit

Ol' Joe from Scranton is getting a lot of credit in this blog lately.  Earlier this week, he got credit for simply being ambulatory.  Today, he's getting credit for surpassing Jimmah Carter's level of incompetence.  That's the headline at PJMedia:

“President Joe Biden has accomplished in just 14 months what many thought was impossible — surpassing President Jimmy Carter as the most incompetent steward of the American economy,” wrote Perry.

That is quite a record of accomplishment.  I'm old enough to remember Jimmah, and it was terrible.

Imagine

Consider for a moment, the ridiculous image of a football team that could never play offense, or a baseball team that never came to bat.  You wouldn't expect those teams to ever win a game, because while defense is important, it doesn't put points on the board.  Consider that metaphor for a while.

The Democrats don't mind winning.  They put points on the board all the time.  The latest kerfuffle over Disney is the best example.  Disney decided to get out of the entertainment business and get into politics, led by the woke mobsters.  The Florida legislature is pushing back, hard.  Disney is abut to lose their special governance district, potentially  costing the millions of dollars per year.  Some squishy Republicans are saying that this move is vindictive retaliation.  No, it's not.  It's politics.  Disney would have been fine if they had not ventured into the world where lots of people see them as a threat to the children.

We have been playing defense long enough.  It's time to play offense.  It's not enough to simply stop the woe mob.  It's a play right out of the Obama White House.  Punch back twice as hard.

#BareShelvesBiden

I've seen this before, generally before a hurricane.  People stock up.

I've never seen it during normal weather.  This is an indication of a severe supply crisis.  I blame our president, and I blame the electorate who foisted this idiot on us.

I don't see any mean tweets on those shelves.  This is the end result of your Democratic overlords and their petty policy decisions.

Want To Play A Game?

Earlier this week, Fox News reported that rumors are swirling on the hill about the House of Representatives doing their due diligence on confirmation hearings.

What?  The House doesn't d confirmation hearings.  Except for Vice President.

Two possible scenarios.  1) Kamala bails, leaving a vacancy to fill, or 2) Biden bails, making Kamala president, and a vacancy to fill.

So, the parlor game becomes:  Joe, Kamala, Nancy, or Chuck.  Who is still in office this time next year?

Got Woke?

It seems that Democrats, especially left-wing types are blaming us for the downfall of their term "Woke".

The term originally was used to describe the most egregious of the left-wing policy prescriptions on such wide ranging policies as the 1st Amendment, 2nd, Amendment, Critical Race Theory, Green Energy, and a host of other issues.

As liberals shy away from the word "woke," the media has blamed Republicans’ negative use of the term for its downfall. What actually happened to "woke" may be more complicated, and cause problems for Democrats in coming elections.

Initially, we used the term to describe the entirely foreseeable economic consequence of following "woke" policies in the business world.  The meme "Get Woke, Go Broke" was used to illustrate companies who adopted left-wing policy and suffered financial loss when consumers rejected those policies.  Nowadays, the meme "Go Woke, Get Smoked" describes the changing mood of the electorate when it comes to left-wing policies.

The idea of being "woke" describes an intellectual laziness and political obtuseness that simply begs for mockery.  They have no one to blame but themselves.

I'm Over It

I spent part of yesterday trying to dissect the tsunami that hit the Democrats in Virginia.  And New Jersey, and a Texas House seat.  Virginia was he big news, but New Jersey was a very close race that should have been an easy win for Democrats, and Democrats lost a long time House seat in San Antonio.

This was not just about Virginia, although Virginia is hugely important.

If you look on the left side of the aisle, they are taking the wrong message from what happened to Tuesday.  According to the woke crew, it was all about white supremacy.  For example:

Or maybe this:

I'm over it, and have been since the early 70s.  It's true that I was born in deep-South Louisiana, but I've been over the racial divide since I became an adult. Since When I was a child, I did childish things, but when I became an adult, I served with magnificent black officers and NCOs  who I trusted with my life and who I counted as brothers. As a civilian police officer, I served with countless magnificent black officers who I trusted  with my life and counted as brothers. and sisters.  I've been over race for fifty years.

The Democrats in general, and the left in particular, needs to get over race, and catch up with a broad swath of the country who judge people by the content of their character.  We've been over race for years.

Maybe, just maybe, some of the ideas that the Democrats espouse don't fit the ideals of many Americans.

Perhaps, calling whole segments of the electorate "white supremacists" isn't a good idea.

Perhaps, pushing transgender policies while covering up rape in a bathroom isn't a good idea.

Perhaps calling concerned parents "domestic terrorists" is not a good idea.

Perhaps allowing huge populations of illegal migrants into the country is not a good idea.

Perhaps lockdowns, mandates, and vaccine passports are not a good idea.

Perhaps raising taxes is not a good idea.

I could go on for a while.  Call me a racist if you like, of a trans-phobe, or a sexist, or any other of your labels to divide us.  But don't expect me to vote for you.  I am over your labeling.

No, It's Not

Democrats Agree: Criticizing Our Behavior Is Racist, Sexist, Homophobic

No, it's not.  It's my right.  If you don't want to be called our for dumbass stunts, don't do dumbass things. If you don't want to be in the public eye, become a private citizen.

It is not only our right, it is our duty to criticize elected officials.  To reveal their hypocrisy, to put their deportment in sunshine.  If a person does not want that scrutiny, they should retire into the anonymity of private life.

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Intrigue

Ever heard of Havana Syndrome?  Me neither, till this morning.  It appears to be a mysterious illness that strikes diplomats.  Evidently, VP Harris had a trip delayed because of some such concerns.

Instapundit games it.

Not hoping it happens of course, but I’m gaming out a scenario where Harris has to step down before Biden for this mystery illness, Biden and Dems appoint a cogent and plausible Veep, giving Biden the room to step down at a later date and avoid the National Nightmare that a Harris Presidency would be.

Things might be getting interesting.

Edwin Edwards Dead at 93

The Baton Rouge Advocate is reporting that former governor Edwin Edwards of Louisiana has passed away at age 93.  Rest in Peace, Eddie.

He was colorful, no doubt about it.  Even his adversaries gave him credit for  being the consummate Louisiana politician.  He served two terms, then was term-limited, then served two more terms.  Then, he served again, but this time in a federal pen for corruption.  Edwin Edwards was quite a character,  a ladies man, and a king-maker for most of his life.  Stories abound, and many of them are quire humorous.

One such story (If I recall correctly).  Late in life, Edwin married a much younger woman.  While discussing it with his doctor, the doctor told Edwin that such a marriage might be dangerous.

Edwin replied, "Well, if she dies, she dies."

Edwin Edwards is gone, and Louisiana politics will be a lot less colorful without him.

Kennedy: ATF nominee a zealot

I like my senator, John Kennedy of Louisiana.

It appears to even a casual observer that there are a lot of zealots in the Biden administation.

Red States Doing Better

Instapundit highlights an article in the Washington Examiner that shows that red states are doing better than blue states, economically.

In particular, the unemployment rates different states are experiencing are strongly correlated with the harshness and length of the pandemic lockdowns their state governments imposed. With a few exceptions, Republican governors rolled back restrictions on the economy much faster than their Democratic counterparts.

Louisiana is supposedly a red state, but we have a Democrat governor who absolutely adores Federal Money, and a group of RINOs in the legislature that Moon Griffon call the Fraud Squad.  These erstwhile Republicans vote with the Democrats on many initiatives and refuse to enact true reform.

I note that many self-identified Republicans are actually Democrats, but no self-proclaimed Democrat is ever a Republican.

What Next?

The drama of the Senate trial is continuing, as the Democrats lose their collective minds, joined by six squishy Republicans to continue this Stalin-esque show trial.  I feel that the glue of their unceasing hatred for al things Trump is all that's keeping the party from arguing amongst themselves at this point.

The point, of course, is to sully Private Citizen Trump so that he won't run for office again.  Honestly, I could't blame him for fading into political obscurity and spending his golden years in semi-retirement.

Anyone with a lick of common sense can see the blatant unconstitutionality of this trial.  With Senator Leahy acting as both judge and juror, the supreme moot-ness of the proceedings, we have to ask ourselves what the Democrats hop to achieve.

I know that for myself, this entire proceeding has revealed some flaws in my own voting record.  I once voted for Mitt Romney; that will never happen again.  I once voted for Bill Cassidy, and I'll not make that mistake ever again.  Having an open mind is one thing, having an empty mind is something else entirely.

So, knowing that a conviction is all but impassible, we have to ask ourselves what the end-game might be.  Next week, they won't have Trump to hate on anymore, and they will have to settle down and govern a terribly divided nation.  For all Biden's talk of unity, I admit that I haven't seen anything that makes me want to give him the benefit of the doubt.

This week, the political process is like watching paint dry.  It's pointless.  Next week, what else are they going to come up with?

Be Careful What You Wish FOr

Marjorie Taylor Greene is a freshman Republican Congresswoman out of Georgia.  She has made some incendiary statements in the past, and was still elected by her district to represent them.  Last week, she was stripped of her committee assignments by the Democratic majority.  You an make of this what you will.  Some are arguing that our lawmakers in Congress should express sound political thinking, and that stripping Greene of her committee assignments was the proper thing to do.

But Greene is an elected member of the House of Representatives, an elite lawmaking branch of the U.S. government. There are only 434 other people in the country who hold this position. If it’s wrong to punish her for the views she expressed on political subjects, then democracy itself is wrong: Picking and choosing leaders who have sound opinions is the whole point.

Fair enough, if that's what he believes, bu everyone should remember that political power is a tenuous thing, and that it ebbs and flows over time.  Others of us are taking notes on how that power is wielded.

“He wanted Democrats to do what he was too afraid to do — remove Greene from committees — and a political boogeyman to blame so it wouldn’t fall on him, which is what he got,” he said. “And he wanted the precedent so that he can exercise the same power without any limitation or reservation if he ever has a Speaker’s gavel.”

I hope that Kevin McCarthy got what he wanted - for the Democrats to strip Greene of her committees.  We know that some Democrats are known for making outrageous statements about politics   He should be taking notes  Power ebbs and flows, and one day he might be the Speaker.  As my mother used to say, "Turn about is fair play."  Democrats may rue the day.

She's Scared

San Fran Nan, the wicked witch fro the West, is still pushing impeachment, with only 10 days left in the Trump presidency.  She's afraid that he might run again.

“There is a possibility that after all of this, there’s no punishment, no consequence, and he could run again for president,” Stahl said.

“And that’s one of the motivations that people have for advocating for impeachment,” Pelosi responded.

Last week was in interesting week.  The Democrats found a riot that they didn't like, President Trump is again under threat of impeachment, and Big Tech is silencing conservative voices.  Conservatism and the Bill of Rights is under attack like it has never been in my lifetime.

The Democrats should be very, very careful in how quickly they change the rules of political engagement.  Power tends to change hands in a democracy, and at some point, the Dems will be out of power.  They may not like to play minority party under the rules they've set as a majority.

And, I'd be very careful about invoking the 25th Amendment lightly.  As many on our side suspect, our new vice-president elect is a very ambitious person.

Biden Wins

It's apparent now to everyone that the Supreme Court will pick and choose which cases they want to hear.  They can choose to reject cases that fall under their original jurisdiction.

It is also apparent that individual states can ignore their own legislatures and drag the goalposts around during an election and that no one will call them to task for doing so.

It is apparent that electoral shenanigans will be rewarded by victory.

Joe Biden will be sworn in as President of the United States.  It is essential that we accept this outcome even if we are disgusted at the outcome.

I detested the Obama years while believing that he had won fairly.  I enjoyed the Trump years while believing that his rancorous tweeting was not helpful.  I'm not sure how I will yet feel about the Biden term, but at this point I am not entirely sure that the vote was on the up-and-up.  Ye, the challenges are over and the Presidency will change hands.

I'm sure that we will hear calls for unity.  Fat chance.  If my initial misgivings are correct, the next four years are going to be a wild ride.  The four horsemen are upon us, and we must try to save the soul of a nation.
