I am reminded that 82 years ago today, Chester Nimitz fulfilled Isoroku Yamamoto's prediction that Japan could run wild for six months, but after that had no expectation of success.
There are several reasons why Nimitz won this match, not the least of which is the fact that we had broken the Japanese naval codes.

Yamamoto had studied at Harvard for 2 yrs, and was aware of the potential of America's industrial might.
He did not want to go to war with the USA.
