Really? Really?

Jay G gives us the link, and I had to click on it.
Nearly six months after Jeremy Atkinson was shot and killed by a Kroger store manager during an attempted robbery, his mother is seeking more than $75,000 in damages in a wrongful-death lawsuit filed against the supermarket chain.
Okay, let me get this straight. Your son is robbing the place and a manager shoots him dead, and you're so craven that you're suing the company? Did I get that right? Yeah, looks like I got it.

One would wonder where your son got his morals and character, but I guess that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Heh. I'm surprised it took six months for the "right" lawyer to link up with the deceased choirboy's momma.

When my niece was in a motorcycle accident recently, it only took a few days for her to receive letters from four lawyers offering to "represent" her....

I am saddened by the fact that this doesn't surprise me.

According to the self-defense statute, “No person in this state shall be placed in legal jeopardy of any kind whatsoever for protecting the person or a third person by reasonable means necessary.”

“It’s ludicrous to me to say that Kroger should be sued when, in fact, their employee had a legal right to protect himself and others,” Relford said. “What’s the alternative? That Kroger should’ve enforced the policy so that (Atkinson) could’ve had a successful armed robbery? That, to me, is ridiculous. It other words, we shouldn’t defend ourselves against the criminals because the criminal might get hurt.”

Not only should Kroger win the suit, the mother should have to pay Kroger legal bill for defending against a frivolous lawsuit, AND her attorney should be suspended from practicing law for one year for filing a suit that he knows is frivolous.
