It's a very complicated recipe, learned from my childhood.
On a baking sheet, placed sliced bread. Whatever you got. This can be common sandwich bread, or leftover hamburger buns, or whatever. Lay sliced cheese on the bread. Run it under the broiler until the cheese is melty and bubbly. Take it out of the oven.
You can do the same thing with saltine crackers. Just use less cheese.

Slather some butter on that bread; sprinkle a bit of garlic salt on it then the cheese and broil it!!!!
as kids we made "pizzas" like that.Toast bread then cover with grated cheese and a little Ragu on top.....

When I was a kid in the 1950’s we called that an open faced cheese sandwich! Some times added a thin slice of tomato and a little leftover bacon from breakfast.

I enjoy melted cheese on bread too, but often sprinkle Cayenne Pepper for some extra kick. No salt for me (bad for my BP) but CP is credited for helping control blood pressure.
Make Hawaiian sandwiches the 1950s way. White bread spread with mayo, a drained canned pineapple ring, a slice of processed yellow cheese on that and an X of cooked bacon. Onto the tray of your GE toast-r-oven set on top brown.
