Gun SHopping

I stopped by the local gun shop today to look thru his used gun rack. Specifically J-frame Smiths.  He had one used Model 640 at over MSRP, and one Model 38 Airweight for over $900.00.  I told him that I had seen a lot of things in my time, but I had never seen a $900.00 Airweight. I am  not going to pay over MSRP for a used gun, it ain't happening.

I've been jonesing for another J-frame.  I gave my last one away after a cerakoting and rebuild, and my daughter-in-law fell in love with it. It rides with her now. The model I'm looking at is the Model 60 3". In .357 Magnum, it might be quite a handful, but I like that longer barrel and the adjustable sights. And, I can get it for less than the local shop wanted for the used 640. I may have to order it closer to BAG day.

Just my two cents worth but take a look at the Ruger LCR or LCRx in .38 Special. If you like it you can easily install big dot front sights at home that show up great. It's a short tube but the front sight makes all the difference. And yes, I'm a S&W wheel gun shooter.

A relative has a 3” adjustable sight Model 60 .357 magnum. It’s a pretty darn handly little revolver.

There are lots of dealers proud of their guns... Too proud in my opinion!

I'm a dealer and the markups to MSRP are already huge. To mark a used gun that high? Crazy!

Did he have the "Don't try to lowball me, I know what I've got" sign on the display case?

Unless you're hooked on a Smith, the little Heritage Roscoe is a much more affordable option in the same frame size. 5 shot, .38spl, blued steel and wood. Actually quite nicely done for <$300. A bit more slab sided than a S&W, without some of the subtle fluorishes but still pretty nice. Overlaid on my J frame kit gun, it's a virtual silhouette for size .

I've got a model 60 just like that! Pre-lock. She's LOOOOUDDD!!!! The 686 is more fun to shoot, but the 60 makes a great pocket-carry.
