I know very little about the .250 Savage cartridge, except that it was supposedly the cartridge that launched the high-velocity revolution. Originally called the .250-3000, it would launch an 87 grain bullet at 3000 fps. Heady stuff.
It's a nostalgic cartridge, surpassed by many, many more capable cartridges. It shoots a 100 grain hunting bullet at about 2800 fps, depending on a number of variables.
I can see no burning reason to yearn for a .250 Savage, except that Savage is offering one in the American Classic rifle. MSRP is about $779.00.
Damn. I want one.

I don't own a single commercial bolt action rifle; just milsurps. I love them... but the temptation for a brand new classic hunting rifle just keeps coming up.
But not in yet another 'different' caliber! It would have to be one I already use...
Many years ago when I was a young'n in Natchitoches, there was a Gibson's dept store going out of business. The sporting goods dept had a Savage Model 99 in 250 Savage for sale.....for $55, IIRC. I wanted it so bad it hurt. Alas, my mom wouldn't buy it for me.
Termite, my story is the same except it was a British Webley pistol for $5. It had a lanyard ring on the butt! How cool!! This was circa 1956.
Mine was a Lee Enfield for $25 in 1970. My father told me I wouldn't be able to find ammo for it.

I had a Ruger #1 in .250-3000 for a while. It was one of the sweetest rifles I have ever held and shot, let alone owned. Alas parental and conjugal responsibilities mandated it's sale. *heavy sigh*

250-3000 is prolly enough rifle for most of us in the deer woods. Passed on a nice little 50's vintage Model 99 a couple years ago. Think about it occasionally. Nice little carbine, that piece...
