What makes a great cheeseburger? That's rather subjective, but people still try to rate them. For example, these guys think they have found the world's three best cheeseburgers.
I recall, in the latter years of the last century, there was a place in Derry, LA called Ruby's Cafe. Miss Ruby was a widow who ran a lunch place. She served local, grass-fed beef that she had butchered to her specifications. Her steaks were great, but her cheeseburgers were top notch as well. She made something she called a Ranch Burger, and they were to die for. I think she put a little ranch dressing powder in the burger mixture.
North of there about 15 miles was a place called the Rite Way Grocery. It was a convenience store with two gas pumps out front. Owned by John Gibson, he had a guy named Howard who did the sweeping and the stocking and anything else that needed doing. Howard also manned the grill during the lunch rush. Howard made a magnificent cheeseburger.
Both Ruby's Cafe and the Rite Way Grocery have passed into the pantheon of places gone forever.
Today, if I'm looking for a great cheeseburger, I go to The Pelican in Pineville. It's right across the street from MacDonalds. Run by a Korean family, they have an eclectic menu, but I'm convinced that their cheeseburger is the best in the parish.. And, it is less expensive than a Big Mac from across the street.
The search for the worlds greatest cheeseburger is never done.

"Cheeseburger in Paradise..."
I love a good cheese burger, but there are no fast food joints here in my area, West Michigan, where you can get one. The only choice is to go to an actual restaurant and get one from them.
That is not a bad thing, because most of the time here, the sit down restaurants, at least the family owned ones, make exceptional food with the cheese burgers being well worth heading out.
I will admit that I am one of those who actually likes the fillet of fish from McDonalds. The rest of their food not so much. I probably get a fish sandwich from them around once a month or so. As hard as it is to believe, my wife and daughter like their chicken nuggets. I would rather eat the shells that chickens come in than to eat those nasty pieces of mystery meat.
My ideal burger is done medium-well, seasoned with just salt and pepper. Muenster or Gouda for the cheese. Grilled onions, dill pickle with catsup, and good ol' American mustard. And I want my salad on the side (tomato and lettuce). You know how hard that is to find in a hamburger joint these days?
I like mine with lettuce and tomato
Heinz 57 and french-fried potatoes
Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer
Two attorney's, CA. and IN., handle only food related cases. They talked about what they will have while eating out. Both require any hamburger or steak to be well done. Greens in bags are a big source of problems. If they buy greens it gets a through washing. Interesting article.
I have no place to get anything but a hamburger at McDonald, ugh. But I do get the fish occasionally.
best cheeseburger i've ever had is made by my bride. ground venison with dry ranch and grated onions mixed in. pepperjack cheese with sweet mustard and horsey sauce
Like a commentor above, a good cheeseburger for me has no vegetables between the buns. On the side, eaten with a fork with a bit of bleu cheese dressing.
The burger - two 1/2 pound patties (pre-cooked weight), no spreads with a pair of real cheese slices on the toasted buns. I want to taste meat and bread, with no other distractions. Well - a light dusting of cayenne on the cheese would be worth it.
