That Old Expresson

You've heard the old expression, "He couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written o the heel."

Well, that's me, when it comes to gasoline cans.  These safety experts have made it so hard to pour gasoline (or diesel, or whatever) out of a can that I am now reduced to looking for the instructions on the heel.  It's damnably sad.  I bought a can last year that was complex, but I finally figured it out.  I bought another one last week that seems to require three hands and a string of invective that would make a sailor blush.

Amazon to the rescue.  They sell normal, old-school spouts that will actually let a fellow pour gasoline into a tank without danger of losing his Christianity.  A pack of three spouts for less than $20.  It's a small price to pay for a sane result.  They'll be here Monday or Tuesday, and I'll refit my cans to something that should work.

Yep, simple spouts, no leakage, and no gas spilled all over your hands, the mower, etc.

I have put replacement spouts of this kind to rejuvenate old style cans for my off grid gen set which tops up batteries when we don’t have enough sun. With these new style cans you might have problems slop from surging as air goes back up the spout since new regulations forbid an air vent. I haven’t tried it.

Did all mine with spout/vent kits off eBay. $24 for 5 kits, and now my plastic jugs for lawn equipment pour without spilling a drop.

I quit using spouts years ago and went to using a funnel. Not just with the new impossible cans, but with all fuel cans.

Buy an old school "Jerry Can" from the internet, NATO approved!

Tractor Supply also sells EZ-Pour spouts.

Something else:

DO NOT use a standard drill bit for the vent cap hole. Best type is a step bit, next best is a spade bit.

Every time the gubmint steps in to help we take one up the rear . I've wasted more gas since the EPA got involved than I've used successfully .

Yep. Bought a few myself. Then had to go out and buy cans with the correct size openings. :-) Sometimes I forget the details.

I bought one of those gas cans and got it home before I realized how complicated it was to use. So I took my pliers and twisted the top of the nozzle until it broke off. Problem solved.
