Louisiana is hurting, there is no doubt about it. Huge job losses due to the government shutdowns, massive out-migration of college graduates, weather related disruptions, and many in the hospitality industry are decrying Governor Edwards lack of leadership in putting Louisiana back to work.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana business organizations Wednesday called on Gov. John Bel Edwards to join Republican-led states in cutting off the extra $300 in federal unemployment assistance going to the jobless, arguing it's harming employer efforts to rehire workers.
Many workers might well make a little more on federal benefits than they do when actually working a job. It's hurting Louisiana. Business owners in restaurants, bars, and small retail need workers, and the princely stipend from the federal government incentive's many to stay at home.
But Governor Edwards doesn't care. It's federal money, and that's all he cares about.
The Democratic governor said he doesn't intend to immediately end the weekly federal aid, but he left open the possibility of doing so later.
John Bel Edwards is the worst governor Louisiana has had since Reconstruction. He's anti-business, pro welfare state, and supports whatever the Democrats in Washington tell him to support. I despise and deplore th man.
