Thought He Got Away

A Box of Cheerios

So there's this guy, Howard Schultz.  He's running for President as an independent and he is also a billionaire, former CEO of Starbucks.

Someone asked him how much a box of Cheerios cost, and he didn't know.

Is this what MSNBC has devolved to?  I was at the grocers yesterday, picking up stuff on the list, and I couldn't tell you how much any of it cost.  How much does a box of Cheerios cost?  It's a bullshit question that depends on where you buy it.  I'm sure that the box costs more at an upscale grocer than at the Family Dollar store. It may well cost more in New York than it does in Pineville, USA.

MSNBC has made itself irrelevant.  They're a bullshit network with braindead anchors.

But, the idea of an independent Presidential run in interesting.  I remember H. Ross Perot in 1992.  He split the conservative vote with George HW Bush and made Bill Clinton the President.  If it were not for Perot, William Jefferson Clinton would simply be a minor footnote in American political history.

So, the question becomes: Who is Schultz going to siphon votes from?  The election is a long way off, so we'll keep a weather eye on this question.

Staying Alive

Yeah, the BeeGees song.  Turns out, it has the proper tempo for CPR.
The Arizona Daily Star reports that 21-year-old Cross Scott found a woman locked in her car this month and broke in, finding she wasn't breathing.
He doesn't have any emergency training but thought of the show where Steve Carell's character does CPR to the tune of the Bee Gees' song "Stayin' Alive." The song has the correct tempo for chest compressions. Within a minute, the woman was breathing, and she was taken to a hospital and later released.
Good Job, Scott!  I didn't know that the song has the right tempo, but it's something that is easy to remember.

100 beats per minute, that's the key.

Snow Day

The weather weenies got it wrong again, and the School Board, depending on what looked like a viable threat of icy bridges, cancelled school for the day.    As happened the last three times, today is a beautiful day, but there is no way to get the kids in school at this late hour,

Because I'm a school-house cop, I am off whe the kids are off, so Zach and I decided to make the best of it.

We started with biscuits in the oven and a pound of bacon on the griddle.  I melted some butter on the side of the griddle for the biscuits.  We got some hash-browns going, then when the biscuits came out o the oven, we dropped some eggs on the griddle.  Bacon, hash-browns, bacon and eggs.

If I would have thought about it, I would have made a quick sausage gravy.

I have an appointment at the optometrist later, so this won't be a totally wasted day.

Same Old Song

Kamala Harris has launched her presidential run and we're hearing some of the same old lies rhetoric that we've heard before from the Godless Democrats.

I you like your pa you can keep it?  Yeah, where have we heard that before?  How did that work out for you?

Yeah, let me tell you, I just signed up for Medicare and it's not the end-all they're cracking it up to be.

Kamala is trying to bankrupt the nation.

Snow Event

Yep, schools are closed tomorrow, and AccuWeather is calling for a "snow event".  We're supposed to get an inch of snow.  Yawn.

We'll see.  So that tomorrow won't be  total waste, I've made an appointment for an eye exam.  It's time for new spectacles and I may as well use a day's sick leave rather than a day of annual leave.

Snow-pocalypse

From NOAA:
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM TO 9 AM CST
TUESDAY...
OhmiGod, Winter Weather.  How bad is it going to get?
 * WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to one
inch are expected.
Oh, my!  Glaciation!  Blizzard Conditions!  Frozen Wasteland!
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will
cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered
roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
Call 511 for road information.
Precautions!  We'll need at least one year's supply of food and water before dark tonight.

Everyone is freaking out over an inch (possible) of show.   It's hilarious.  The Great Blizzard of 2019 is upon us.

**UPDATE** Sure enough, Rapides Parish Schools are close tomorrow due to potentially hazardous driving conditions.

Weekend Update

Busy weekend, guys, but a good one  We started out yesterday doing chores around the house ad in the afternoon,  hosted a club shoot, our first monthly match of 2019.  We shoot for "Top Gum" points, and at the end of the year, we add up the points and give prizes.

L-R 1st,  Two Step Cooke - 2nd Squirrel Girl - 3rd Blue Eyed Belle

L-R - 1st, Cajun Greg - 2nd, Big Bill - 3rd Brother Fred

After the match, Belle decided that we needed oysters to finish the evening, so we took out some fresh oysters, broiled them in garlic butter topped with cheese and served them on crackers.  I complimented mine with a dram of Cooper's Craft whiskey.

This morning, the family is coming over for lunch, so we decided to make deer chili on a frosty January morning.

That's how we're rolling this weekennd.  Tomorrow, it's back to the grind, but in the meantime, we're living large.

Friday Night - Jerry Clower

I've never seen this one.

That's good stuff, right there.

What The Hell?

It's all over the news that Roger Stone, a previous Trump advisor was arrested this morning.  It's everywhere.   In the pre-dawn hours, the FBI executed an arrest warrant at Stones home in Florida.

Amazingly, it was all caught on video.

The big news, to my mind, is not that the FBI arrested someone for whom they had a warrant.  That is their job.  The big news is that the FBI is now tipping off news agencies when they make a splashy arrest.

This is what the FBI has become.  It's a shame, it's a damned shame.

Exactly

Reason Magazine has a good headline.
Shutdown-Induced Bottlenecks at Nation's Airports Shows Folly of Letting the Federal Government Run Things
I concur, and I've long wondered why the airlines let the TSA set the security standards.  For starters, they suck at it.  TSA fails to detect most threats, and basically performs kabuki theater to make the uneducated travelers feel better.  Those of us with security backgrounds know better.

Airline security should be airline-specific and could be used as a marketing tool.   Airline A could have hyper-vigilant security and make that a selling point.  Airline B could have good security, but let people think that flying is an adventure and cater to another market.

But, in the final analysis, the Fed Gov is horrible at most things.  We have a pretty good military, but I consider that the outlier, and mainly because the military has standards.  As a people, we should really limit the role of the Fed.Gov to simply funding the military.  Think how much money we'd save.

The Big Question

SO, the big question around the water cooler is what Pete Rozelle... Roger Goodell is going to do about the horrible, terrible endings of the Saints game and the Rams game last weekend.

Folks are asking whether the NFL is a sports league, where we can reasonably expect the officials to enforce the rules, or whether the NFL is now pure entertainment, where games are rigged to fit a preferred narrative?  It's a good question.

Not that I care, but it is amusing to watch sports fans to debate the issue.  I have better things to do on a Sunday afternoon than to watch a bunch of  overpaid idiots keel before the flag.  The last Super Bowl I watched was the weekend I met my gal.  We met at a Super Bowl party the last weekend in January, 2001.   Nowadays, they don't play the Super Bowl until sometime in February, so Belle and I don't have a mini-anniversary at the Super Bowl.  It's in the wrong month.

Now, Goodell doesn't care whether Belle and I have a mini-anniversary, and it's becoming clear that he doesn't care if there is a perception that not one, but two championship games were rigged.

Which is why I don't watch Championship Wrestling, either.

Just For Fun

Heh!

Shave like a man!

SCOTUS Allows Military Transgender Ban

I see that in a 5-4 decision, the Supremes have decided to lift the injunction that allowed transgenders into the military.  This is the correct decision.  It should have been 9-0.  Evidently four members of the court have no idea what the military does, or what it is intended to do.
Justices Ruther Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan would have denied the request for a stay.
What those four don't understand is that the military is not an equal opportunity employer.  The military has standards.  Can't pass the PT Test?  You're gone.  Can't deploy?  Sorry.  Get too old to do the job? (Yeah, it's called the MRD, or mandatory removal date.)   The military has a whole litany of things that might exclude someone from serving.  Too bad, so sad.  Eventually, the military tells everyone to go home.

The military is too important for touchy-feely social projects.

Kamala Is Running

According to several sources.
On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) announced her candidacy for the 2020 presidential election with a 1-minute video extolling "American values" and inviting supporters to join her ... in Oakland
She's the first one out of the gate, and if my memory serves, that doesn't bode well.

I couldn't vote for Kamala at any rate.  I saw the hit job she tried to do on Kavanaugh, along with her good friend Cory Booker.  It was disgusting.  She showed me all I needed to know about her that day, and I'm sure that he opponents will play that clip at every golden opportunity.

Racist, you say?  No, I'd vote for a black woman in a minute if her political  opinions aligned with mine.  Condoleeza Rice, for example.  I'd jump on that bandwagon in a flash.

Custom Knife

One of our shooters, a church member, and good friend, is also a knife maker.  He's made us a custom knife as one of the prizes.  We'll probably sell it at auction, to benefit the club.  It's a beautiful knife, a custom piece, with a tab on the scabbard for a CFDA badge.

It's a beautiful blade, but I didn't measure it.  I'm sure that the bidding will go high on it.

Thanks, Brother Fred!  We appreciate good craftsmanship, and this is some of the best.

Compromise

Even the Washington Post beeves that Nancy Pelosi should come to the table ad talk with Trump about the shutdown/immigration policy.
Unquestionably a deal would contain galling elements for both sides; that’s the nature of compromise. But a measure of statesmanship for a member of Congress now is the ability to accept some disappointments, and shrug off the inevitable attacks from purists, if it means rescuing the lives of thousands of deserving people.
The bolding is not mine, it's the Post's.  Indeed, statesmanship requires compromise, and Pelosi is not going to get everything she wants.  But, here is the problem.  We've been trying to get immigration settled for many decades, and the argument keeps shifting.  Even Pelosi has said that she doesn't want any more illegals in the country.

The only leverage that President Trump has now is the shutdown.    If the President re-opens the government, the Democrats will retreat into their untenable positions and the immigration debate will never move forward.  It's time to work this out.  There may be items that we don't like, but that is the nature of compromise.

Beef Tips and Gravy

It's a very simple recipe, guys, let's not over-think it.  Basically, we're boiling beef in gravy.  We doesn't like gravy?

That's how we roll around here on Sundays.

At The Ball

The krewe Mystique had their ball last night, inducted new officers and began getting ready for the Mardi Gras season.  Belle ad I were fortunate to be invited.  The venue was lovely, an antebellum plantation home that has bee concerted into an event venue.  It was very gracious, a lovely setting for a formal ball.

The ladies sparkled, the gentlemen were cordial and jovial.  The food was excellent the bar was well-staffed, and the band knew how to play to a crowd.  It was an all-together excellent evening.

Running Hard

We're busy today, passing through the house between events.  This morning we wet to Simmsport, about an hour south of here to pay our respects at a funeral.    Now, we're taking a little break before cleaning up and going to a Mardi Gras ball tonight.

Yep, Belle is going to put on a pretty dress and PawPaw is going to put on a tuxedo.  It should be quite the festive event.

The PawPaw clan is busy today.  Tomorrow, things will get back to normal, whatever normal might be.  I'm beginning to think that the only normal around here is a setting on the washing machine.

Sour Grapes

The headline at the New York Post sounds like sour grapes:
Melania Trump reportedly heading to Mar-a-Lago on government jet
The paper is trying to make the point that the Big Nance had a trip canceled yesterday, but Melaia is flying to Palm Beach for the weekend.  Frankly, the point is lost on me.

Who cares?  Melania is smoking hot and could probably stand on the ramp at Andrews with her thumb up and hitch a ride anywhere she wanted to go.  I'm pretty sure that the First Lady qualifies for Space-A travel.

Of course, leftist Twitter took notice.
“So Trump denies the Speaker of the House the ability to visit troops in Afghanistan, but Melania gets to take a trip to Florida ahead of the holiday weekend,” tweeted pollster Matt McDermott.
Troop visits go two ways.  When I was in service, I was involved in a couple of Big-Shot visits.  The idea that the Big Nance wanted to visit the troops is one thing.   The suggestion that the troops wanted to see Nancy is laughable.  Big-Shot visits are a pain in the ass.

President Trump did the right thing.  And, he was classy about it.  If it were me, I probably would have let her get to Bagram, then cancelled the return flight.  Military priorities, you understand.  Simply divert her aircraft for more important missions.  But, that would be wrong, wouldn't it?

Pelosi No-Fly

It's on the news everywhere, but President T rump has told the Big Nance that she can't fly to Europe on a government airplane.  I don't know why she thinks going on a world tour is a good idea during a government crisis of her own making, but evidently, she thought it was a good idea.

The letter is everywhere.

I'll bet that when she read the sentence about flying commercial, her tit got caught in a wringer.

That's funny, right there.

Caravan Karma

It seems that there is another migrant caravan cranking up to make its way to the US-Mexico border.  The Mexicans are not pleased.
“Mexico is just like your country,” Gonzales added. “There are many problems and needs, and you’re not going to be much better off than you were in Honduras. Please don’t trust these manipulative agitators who are encouraging you to risk everything for nothing.”
Luis Mendez was far more unwelcoming. “We do not want caravans of (emojis of rats). Fight conditions in your own country. You are not welcome here."
Really?  Mexico is telling disadvantaged migrants that they are not welcome?  The irony burns.

Tight Chambers

Rugers are known for tight champers.  I'm not hating on Ruger, I'm just saying that they are known for tight chambers.    You might want some evidence, so, to wit:

In Cowboy Fast Draw, Belle ad I own several .45 Colt revolvers.  Pietta, and Uberti in several flavors, and a couple of Ruger New Vaqueros.  We bought some laser cartridges for practice, ad while they'd work right out of the bubble pack in the others, in the Rugers they would't completely chamber.  The fix was simple,  with an emery board, reduce the case mouth just a bit ad the lasers would fit the cylinder.

I load .308 Win for several rifles.  My daughter owns a Ruger American.  Ammo that will fit in the Savages or the Remingtons will chamber very tightly in the Ruger.  I've learned to seat bullets for her rile just a bit deeper, a hair under SAAMI length for best chambering in the Ruger.

We have a couple of old Ruger Model 77s in .25-06.  Likewise, tight chambers.

Which brings me to my Ruger LCP.  Nice little gun, but factory ammo simply will not completely chamber.  The slide stops ever-so-slightly before going fully into battery.  I suppose I could find a suitable mop, fill it with jeweler's rouge or valve compound and polish the chamber, but I'm loathe to do that.

My preferred solution is to take a few minutes and run the factory ammo through a Lee Factory Crimp die.   A while back, I loaned the Elsie Pea to a friend to try out, and later got it back.  Recently I learned to my horror that I was out of ammo, so I stopped by the store to pickup another box.  Good, hollow-point ammo.  And, I spent 15 minutes at the bench.

In just a few minutes I had run that bx of ammo through the die and filled the magazines.  Everything works, ad we're ready to drop the little pistol into my pocket come springtime.

Rugers have tight chambers.  It's a good thing to know.

Gender Roles

There are a couple of things I've noticed int he past week.  Both from Insty.

First, this:

Then This:
Today, with the freeing of females from traditional role constraints, it is still primarily men who do the dangerous and dirty jobs, who make up most of the first responders and the military who defend us, and who, as scientists and engineers, continue to address the natural world for understanding and to serve our needs. These are some of the ways that the characteristics and qualities of men benefit society. And it is the job of socialization to direct the traits of men into constructive channels, a more realistic and productive strategy than trying to turn males into females.
The one thing that I noticed recently, at a ceremony at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine was that the overwhelming majority of students (upwards of 80%) were female.  This school is highly competitive, with a limited number of slots available to aspiring vets, and the successful applicants are overwhelmingly female.  The students that I know are uber-smart, talented people who would do well in any academic situation.  They are also going to be great veterinarians.

Gillette. Wow!

Have y'all seen the new Gillette commercial.  You know, the Gillette that makes razor blades?  Yeah, that Gillette.

It's all touchy-feely, with social justice crap.  Amazing.  And, if what I'm reading has any impact, it will bomb spectacularly.

Back in the old days, in the black-boot army, I'd travel to Knox during the summer to attend portions of the Armor Officer Advanced Course.  As reservists, we'd do two week portions.  I shared a BOQ room with an executive from Gillette.  (Can't remember his name.)  Nice guy,  Armor officer, and fully Gillette razors.  He'd pass them out, imploring us to use Gillette so that his children could have shoes and warm coats.

I bet he wasn't in the room when Gillette adopted this piece of fuzzy SJW.

Paperwork

I turned in my formal notice of retirement today at the Sheriff's Office.

The secret is out.  I'm sure that the rumor mill will crank up shortly.

I'm not mad at anyone, I'm not upset.  I'm simply 65 years old and in the words of John Holliday, it's time to seek my amusement elsewhere.  It's been a good run, but it's over.  My last day of work will be March 28.

Meatloaf

But not your standard, boring meatloaf.  No, we have a bacon wrapped, cheese stuffed, smoked meatloaf.

When I ran that hunk of meat into the smoker, it ran about seven pounds, with all the stuff we put ito that ground chuck.  After lunch, there is barely enough to make a sandwich.

Meatloaf, it's good stuff done right

Jerry Miculek vs the Bump Stock

The bump stock is a fun toy, and I don't see what the problem is.  It's basically a way to turn money into noise, but a good person with an AR can outrun a bump stock.

Yeah, a bump stock is fun, but running an AR correctly is really fun.

Cooper's Craft

Strolling through the grocer's today, I happened to notice a bottle I had not seen previously.

At ~$19.00 a bottle, I dropped it in the basket.  When I got to a place where I could research it, I find that it is a release from Brown-Forman.  It's the first new whiskey they have released in several years and was named to celebrate their Coopers (the guys who make the barrels).

It's a 4-6 year whiskey, bottled at 82 proof.  I went to You Tube for a review and found onne at the Whiskey Vault.

This may be an interesting whiskey.  In the next few days, I'll crack the bottle and let you know.

UPDATE** Got home ad poured a dram, neat, in a highball glass.  Very nice whiskey.  Friendly,  simply, very good neat.  I'll have to try it with ice later.  (Sipping)  That is a lovely bourbon without a lot of complexity.  But, very nice.  It would make a nice beginners whiskey for drinking neat.

Technology

Here at work, the elevator is broken.  It seems that the circuit board fried itself and we're waiting on a replacement.  It's not generally a big deal, as the building is only two floors and most folks use the stairs anyway.

So, one of the tech guys asked about it, and I told him that the circuit board was fried.  Then I asked him why he didn't just build a new circuit board.  He looked at me like I was crazy.

"Yeah," I told him, "back in the Dark Ages, when I was in high school, we'd go down to Radio Shack, get a piece of circuit board plastic and build our own circuits.  We'd use wire, capacitors, resistors, and a solder iron.  We used to make simple radios from parts."

Low tech still works.  We don't know how long the elevator will be "down", but I'm sure that low tech could fix it.

Speaking of which:

Recently, my son and I were talking, and someone mentioned a common kitchen match.  Grandson, six years old, had no clue..  He's a smart kid, a whiz with his tablet, but he had no idea about proably the most important breakthrough in the history of the human condition.  Fire.  When man learned to harness fire, it was huge.  Everything else, all new technology flowed from that discovery.

Grandson now knows how to operate a standard kitchen match.  It's very low technology, but it works, and it's still a life-changing tool.

The Pelosi Shutdown

It loos like Nancy owns the shutdown now  The President asked if she'd fund the Wall i exchange for an end to the shutdown, and Nancy said NO.  It looks like talking to Pelosi is a total waste of time, but I've figured that she's a total waste of oxygen.

I'm okay with it.

Thanks For Making The Point

It seems CBS decided to fact-check the President last night.
CBS reported, "Fact check: Number of women sexually assaulted on trip to border.
"CLAIM: The president claimed one in three women have been sexually assaulted traveling to the border.
"FACT CHECK: Between 60 percent and 80 percent of female migrants traveling through Mexico are raped along the way, Amnesty International estimates."
Hilarious. Who is in charge? Ralph Wiggums?
The President knew that he would be fact-checked.

I understand that CBS has since scrubbed this embarrassment.

My Take

I didn't hear the speech tonight, but I kinda know what he said.  I was working at an event that actually made a difference.

But, got home and looking around over a whiskey, and I come to this stunning image.

Geez, those two are a bit skeevy, aren't they?  I'd hate to meet those two  in a dark alley (or or on a well-lighted freeway).  And, that's the face of the Democrat party today?

They have't talk us WHY they don't want the wall, they just want to rail against it.

Washington Said It First

History may not repeat itself, but it certainly rhymes. On this day in history,  I am reminded that President George Washington gave the very first state of the union address.  One of the points he wished to make.
Various considerations also render it expedient, that the terms on which foreigners may be admitted to the rights of Citizens, should be speedily ascertained by a uniform rule of naturalization. ...
Interesting that tonight President Trump is addressing the nation on immigration, and we're still talking about it as a nation.

That's Kind Of The Idea

Leroy Schumacher, grandfather of 17-year-old Jacob Redfearn, believes the death of Redfearn was unjustified because the homeowner's AR15 gave him an unfair advantage over the three burglars.

That's kind of the idea.  Home invaders aren't looking for a fair fight.

I would probably have used a shotgun.  I'm just saying.

Judges Union?

Evidently, the shutdown is affecting some people, like the immigration courts.
“You’re shutting down the immigration court over the issue of immigration,” said Judge Ashley Tabaddor, president of the National Association of Immigration Judges, the judges union.
Why do judges need a union?
Immigration courts are whittled to a skeleton staff, forcing court dates to be postponed and raising the ire of the judges already burdened by nearly 770,000 pending cases.
I doubt that they were "whittled".  Perhaps more accurately, they were forced to furlough those personnel who are deemed unessential.  Which begs the question of hwy they have a backlog?

Even When She's Wrong

The representative out of New York's 14th Distinct (Bronx and Queens) tells Anderson Cooper that even when she's factually wrong, she's morally right.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tells Anderson Cooper that even when she’s factually wrong, she’s still ‘morally right’
I have to admit that she's entertaining.  For some reason, I get the feeling that the good citizenry of her district elected her, not so much for her stunning intellect, but more as a hearty "screw you" to federal governance.  I can almost hear the thought processes.  "Let's send this idiot to Washington.  She'll be good for comic relief, and might actually manage to collapse the whole system."

From a libertarian standpoint, she might be just exactly what Congress needs.  None of her legislation is in danger of passing, and her public pronouncements are certainly whimsical.  I don't know that anyone takes her seriously, not even her constituents.  I, for one, have taken to calling her Occasional Cortex.

Belle's Chicken and Dumpings

My Gal, Belle to you, has been making chicken and dumplings for years, and she has been asked over and over again for the recipe.  It's not a recipe so much as a process, so we decided to You  Tube it.  This is not a quick menu, it takes a while, about three hours from star to finish, but it's all here.

For some reason, I didn't hit the "record" button when she was mixing her dry ingredients, but it's all there now.  Watch the video for the whole process.  The video is about 18 minutes long, but it's all important.

That's how my gal does Chicken & Dumplings

And, the World Changed

It was yesterday, January 4, in 1847 that Captain Samuel Walker walked into Sam Colt's shop and asked for a new revolver.  And, the world changed.
Walker’s stipulations, according to Mark Crawford for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers: he wanted an improved version of the revolver that Colt had patented in 1836. It needed to hold six bullets, be simple to reload and “be powerful enough to kill a man with a single shot.”
It was a tall order, but Colt made it, and until the advent of the .357 magnum in 1935, it was the most powerful handgun in existence..  The Walker had its problems, but it paved the way for better revolvers and became an iconic part of American firearms history.

I've handled one original, at the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco, TX.  If you're ever in the area, you should stop and visit.

Hanging Out

We've been hanging out all day with Belle's family.  Talking family matters, politics, and bullshit (which is pretty much the same as politics)

So, I offer this bit of trivia.

Tomorrow, I am going to video Belle making Chicken and Dumplings.  She is famous hereabouts for her chicken and dumplings and I am going to stand over her shoulder and video the whole process, for the benefit of the uninitiated.    Be advised, though, she doesn't measure anything.  It should be quite an interesting editing and production phase.

Que The Clowns

I see that the "most diverse House ever" was sworn in yesterday and promptly elected an aging white woman as Speaker.  The first order of business was to end the shutdown, so they got busy and passe a bill.
The Dems kicked off with some legislation, a bill described by the media fan bois as one that will end the shutdown. ABC News has a headline "House votes to end shutdown despite White House veto threat."
Good job, Democrats.  Probably the finest hour in House history.  Passing a bill that will never see daylight in the Senate, and the President will never have to veto.  Good job!   But, in this largely clown-show gesture, they missed an opportunity.  Imagine what bargaining leverage they would have had if they had simply funded The Wall.  They might have gotten some concessions on the Dreamers, or any other of their pet projects.  But, they come out full-throated against the President and remind us how vastly important the Electoral College is in our modern world.

I fully expect the impeachment hearings to begin any minute, keeping us entertained while they spin their wheels.    The tragi-comedy of  watching the Democrats beat their heads against The Wall is going to make 2020 a cake-walk.  Not much is going to get done, but it will all be hyped by the leftist media as high drama.  ABC has become the garbage scow of news agencies, with CNN as the tug boat.

As a small-government guy, they say "shutdown" like it's a bad thing.  I notice that my military retirement hit the mailbox right on time, ad I notice that I have an appointment with the Social Security Administration later today, so they're still open.  I'm trying to figure out just what is shut down, and why it's a bad thing?

Running Errands in the Rain

It's been raining like a whatchacallit all day long, but I had errands to run ad rain is a common commodity in Louisiana.   I needed a birth certificate, so I went to the court house to get one, then trotted upstairs to the Sheriff's office.  I talked to the nice folks in HR, and told them I intend to retire on April 1st.  They're getting their paperwork together, and I'm getting my paperwork together, and now everyone knows I'm leaving.   We talked about insurance and stuff, and I have a handle on that.

I'm not mad at anybody, it's simply time.   Years of working around jail-houses tell me that one door has to close before another door can open, so it's time to make the move.   I knew when it was time to retire from the State, and I knew when it was time to retire from the military.  Now, it's time to retire from the Sheriff's office.

Went out to Camp Beauregard to get a new ID Card, but the ID Card machine is down and they hve no idea when it will be fixed.   It seems to me that an ID Card device would be important on a military post, but what do I know.?

When I was in the military, we called it being a "short-timer".

I'm going to be so short, I won't be able to see out of my boots.

In Lieu of Actual Content

I's raining.  I've done the laundry, and cleaned out a closet.  Bored now ad watching YouTube.

He has the same problem with his dog that I have with mine.

Here's my dawg, yesterday.

I had to look at this ribs to see if he was breathing.

March Cancelled

Not the month, we'll still have March, but the Women's March in New Orleans.
The New Orleans Women’s March rally has been canceled following allegations of Jew hatred and anti-white racism that have rocked the movement and several of its key members, including Linda Sarsour and Tamika Mallory.
A rally was scheduled for 2019, but has now been axed.
Why are leftist organizations such cesspits of hatred and bigotry?

Black Eyed Peas ad Cabbage

Long a tradition in the South, we maintain that tradition with friends for lunch.  It' ain't just boiled cabbage, Belle has quite a recipe, but its simple and easy.  It''s a good way to use that leftover ham from Christmas, and I have to save the ham bone from Christmas so that she cam use it for the peas and cabbage.

Happy New Year's y'alll..  We'll get cranking on the new year tomorrow.  My first order of business will be a haircut.
