Sometime about the middle of May, we had to buy a new fridge for the house. Belle went online to the Lowe's site and picked out a fridge. A nice Frigidaire on sale. Had it delivered. The fellow who delivered it and set it up was a nice fellow, very professional, did a great job setting it up, connecting the ice maker and walking me through the process.
Couple of days ago, the fridge threw a code on the door panel, telling me that it needs an air filter.
What? An air filter? Seriously? So, we went to Amazon and ordered some air filters. They will be in tomorrow. Today, I came in and it is throwing another code. It wants a water filter. Hence, we have ordered some water filters.
My old fridge stood there for almost 20 years and when Lowes hauled it off it had the same filter in it that the manufacturer had installed.
It is a nice fridge, but it is needy.

Air filter??? And, it needed replacing after just a few days? Um.
My 35 yo fridge died 43 days ago. Its replacement should arrive in ten days. I think Costco waits until they have enough units ordered to make the trip from China worth it. No one else had the right size fridge in stock...
Er, "months", not "days".
Appliances are like printers these days. With those, they make money on the ink. With fridges, it's filters filters filters. I got sick of that and put on an external water filter and installed the blank where the filter goes. Then I simply cancel the codes.
Or, like at work, ignore the warning. According to the schedule, we should've replaced the water filter two years ago. Hey, it's filtered, chlorinated city water.
I replace my whole house water filter every other month and it is gross. Yay for lotsa sediment supporting the local filter vendor...
I had to buy a fridge, rhymes with Fred Astaire, about a year ago. In just a few weeks it conked out and no local repair shops would touch it. More than a week later after I threw out the food an "authorized" tach showed up. In TEN minutes he figured out the defroster timer failed and he fixed it and was gone.
He also said that parts come from the supplier with the lowest bid and if a batch is bad all those fridges will need fixing.
Youtube has dozens of videos by appliance guys saying modern appliances are junk.
The ice maker filter usually lasts 6 months. The air filter is good for a year or two, depending on how dusty your air is. Don’t forget to keep the coils clean, and scrub and disinfect the evaporator pan annually..
Our LG is a built in and the closet is half a foot deeper than the fridge. This gives the fridge plenty of breathing room, and it left enough space to install a smaller 2 stage pre-filter on the water line. The ice is much better now and the little internal filter now lasts several years. I did it because our tap water is very hard and highly treated by the town.
