So, the Russians forced down a US drone over the Black Sea. No one was hurt, so that's good, but a drone cost about $2 million per copy. But, this incident opens our whole discussion of Ukraine and how much money we are spending over there.
Plus, it's getting springtime, and the muddy season will soon be on the Ukraine countryside. Monile forces don't do well in mud. Ask Patton. And, NATO is supposed to be sending them some tanks. If you've never seen a tank stuck in mud up to the turret ring,,, Well, let me tell you, math is involved. You start talking about winch load capacity, rated cable strength. snatch blocks, and weight multipliers. You do the math before you start hooking up cables.
It brings back fond memories of a place called Area 5 North at Fort Knox,

Armored vehicles + mud. Mid 1960's, Germany, we Combat Engineers were often tasked with "rescuing" them. M113s were easy but a stuck tank retriever, as you say, required a lot of math. Heavy wreckers, 20 ton truck mounted cranes, and winches on 5 ton bridge trucks were needed.

I remember an incident involving a jeep stuck in a German turnip field. It involved a 3/4 ton, a deuce and half, a wrecker, and a tank retriever. Much moaning and gnashing of teeth and considerable maneuver damage payment. It all started with a second looie that couldn't read a map and a driver who loved to play dumber than he really was.
saw 60's stuck in mud holes at polk back in the 80's...would take 2 88's to get them out..m1 weighs a lot more than a 60...
