I hate to be nit-picky Paw-Paw, but it's actually "duck" tape because the base of the tape is cotton duck, with a water resistant coating on one side and adhesive on the other. T-shirt made in China where they don't know any better, perhaps?
It muffles the sound of stupid as well as preventing it's escape.
