Leadership

I've got a big project coming, and I'm thinking about leadership.

What is the essence of leadership?  Can it be distilled into a catch-phrase?

It cannot be distilled to a catchphrase. However, if you study the writings of great leaders long enough you can begin to understand the meaning of leadership.

"There is no teaching to compare with example"- Lord Baden-Powell

"Superhuman effort isn't worth a damn unless it achieves results"- Ernest Shackleton

"Lonliness is the penalty of leadership, but the man who has to make the decisions is assisted greatly if he feels that there is no uncertainty in the minds of those who follow him, and that his orders will be carried out confidently and in expectation of success"- Ernest Shackleton

I think that saying is a good one. One of the most understated qualities of leadership is this: It's not about you (the leader). It is about the people you are leading and reason or goal you are leading toward.
Jesus was the perfect example of the servant leader and anyone who leads selflessly like He did will make me stop, think, and consider (at the very least).

Can't really be distilled into a one liner, and real leaders know that.

And one more thing......and I'm sure you've heard it before, but it needs saying again.

"We, the Willing, led by the Unknowing,
are doing the Impossible, for the Ungrateful.....
We have done so much, for so long, with so little.....
that we are qualified to do anything, with nothing......

Yea, Termite.
We have been doing the impossible for the ungrateful for so long, we have become old and grumpy.
