Carter backs Bush's stand on seaport-operations dealI'm not kidding.
It seems that the Pres is taking heat for a deal to let a Dubai company run the ports at six major port operations in the United States. I was against this deal when I first heard of it, about a week ago. I'm still agin it. I don't think Arabs should be running ports in the United States. Sorry, I think we have too much to lose in the WOT to allow something like that, and I'm kind of embarrassed that my President came up with this hairbrained idea.
But, the fact that Jimmah Cahta agrees with "W" puts the death knell on this deal as far as I am concerned. It's a bad idea. Very bad.

Why are you guys surprised that a harebrained president came up with a harebrained idea?
It never occurred to me that anyone other than the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Customs Department were securing the ports. I was upset to hear that a British company was doing it; appalled that an Arab company was being considered, and would not even be happy with a U.S. company doing it. This is not a function that belongs in the private sector. This is one of the few jobs that I think the government *should* be doing (provide for the common defense). Have I missed something?

Yep. The Coast Guard provides security at U.S. ports. The Arabs are about to manage the ports, that's all. "All" I say, but Osama's boys are jumping with joy, I imagine.
