USA Today is reporting that the Marines have found their lost jet, about 80 miles from where the pilot ejected.
Debris from a missing F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jet have been located in South Carolina after a pilot ejected and parachuted to safety.
They report that "many questions remain", and yeah, I reckon that's true.
But, there is a long and storied tradition of aviators crashing planes, ever since 1908, when Orville crashed his Wright Flyer.

Rumor mill has it that the operating system on the fighter jets had been leaked over a year ago, saying this was a hack job. Bodes well for war with chy-na.
The tinfoil crowd says it was brought down by small arms fire. The area of NC where it was conducting low-level flight operations is being investigated for increased militia activity.
Regardless of the actual reasons, this is not a good look for our military, which is already a global laughingstock. Training accidents happen, and they're labeled as such. When you LOSE A FUCKING FIGHTER JET AND ASK THE PUBLIC TO HELP YOU FIND IT, you're an embarassment.
To the general staff: its called Seppuku, learn it, use it.
As a retired fighter pilot, I find it interesting that the pilot had an emergency which required him to eject, yet the airplane flew another 80 miles before hitting the ground. Even if he was doing 600, that would have been an 8 minute pilotless flight.
Should be a VERY interesting accident report.

Goes along with long and storied tradition of covering up the facts afterward.
