Great photo of a soldier firing an AT4.
The AT4 is a light, anti-armor weapon designed and manufactured by BOFORS of Sweden.
It's a single-use weapon packaged and distributed as one issue of ammunition. Once it is fired, the launcher is discarded. It is intended to give light infantry an anti-armor punch, and I'm sure that it is useful against other hardened structures, like bunkers and buildings.
Great photo!
Actually, I believe, to be more useful in the GWoT, they came up with an 'anti-building/bunker' version with a warhead optimized for structures, rather than armored vehicles.
ReplyDeleteAs a tanker you know the only way that is effective against armor is hitting a track or drive wheel. I was on active duty in 1965 when we lost our 3.5 rocket launchers and were issued those. Our allocated 3 practice rounds didn't penetrate an old Sherman hulk at the range in Grafenwoehr.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it has been improved since then.
