I see that GM is recalling 1.3 million cars because of problems with the steering. That should lead to hilarity during the Toyota hearings.
I also see that Ford whacked GM in sales during the last month. Ford, you might recall, didn't take any of the bailout money.

My question is, were the Toyota hearings even legal since the government is a major stockholder in GM and Chrysler??? Isn't that a conflict of interest??? :-)
I grew up a Chevy and Pontiac guy. No more GM (or Chrysler) for me as long as the .gov owns/runs it.
Ford & Nissan top my list for combined value/US content quotient.
Seems to me that Government Motors didn't hesitate to use their exalted position to try to steal market share from Toyota. While the Toyota recall is somewhat troublesome, the GM fault could be considerably more expensive for the owner. With the Toyota, just pop it in neutral, cut off the engine and apply the brake. Why a state trooper couldn't do that...
Now I've read that GM is blaming their production partner and supplier/vendor, Toyota, for their recall... Ya gotta love it.
BTW, I've got an F150 and it looks like FORD or HONDA will make another sale when the wife gets a new vehicle. It absolutely won't be a GM.
A friend is a service writer for a local GM dealer. His dealership is laying off another third of their staff across the board, even the owner's daughter got the axe. They now have less than half the staff they had in 2008. Sales are in the crapper. They have unsold box vans strategically parked to camouflage the empty back lot and the cars in the front line that were three feet apart last year are fifteen feet apart now, to make the line look less meagre. They used to sell fifteen to twenty cars a week, now it's two or maybe three. The only department that's busy is the service department doing recall repairs. Even their parts department is down thirty per cent. The Ford dealership across the street is humming. My buddy says what struck him was that nearly all the employees laid off in the last year had o'bumble stickers on their cars. HOPE AND CHANGE!
My next door neighbor has been out of work for six months, yup, O'bambi stickers on both his and his wife's cars. HOPE AND CHANGE!
