Our dog has a strange predilection. He's got plenty of fresh water at his disposal, but he prefers to drink from mud puddles. If he can find a puddle, he'll stop and fill up.
It tastes better, I guess.

All dogs, most cats and many kids know that feral water always tastes better than that weak kneed domesticated junk.
I adopted a dog who did the same thing. Turned out he was smart. My community had switched from Chlorine to purify the water to a catacolamine (SP?) which is poisonous to small critters. When I changed his supply to something properly filtered, he was happy to use that instead of mud-puddles.

It's full of vitamins and minerals, especially minerals.....
