I'm the NRA

I'm off this morning and was paying bills. One of the bills I pay yearly is my membership to the National Rifle Association. With all the years that I have paid membership, I should be a life member. I'm not. Like a dummy, I keep sending in the yearly dues, although this time I pulled the plug and upgraded to a 3-year membership.

I really need to take some of the money I spend on firearms, reloading supplies, and other accouterments and put it in an envelope. When I get $750.00, send in the Life Membership form.

I was thinking about how important membership in the NRA has become. Like them or hate them (and I've done both over the years) they are the premier gun-rights organization in the United States. I've worked with them, and ranted about some of their decisions. I've cussed them and praised them, but I keep joining because I feel like they do good work.

If you're a gunny, there are some other organizations you might want to look into.

Gun Owners of America is one. The Second Amendment Foundation is another. One of my favorites is the Cast Bullet Association. Organized more on a shooting and technical perspective, the CBA has tons of information on casting, reloading and shooting cast bullets. If you like shooting cast bullets, the CBA really deserves your support.

One of the last things I did, after sending in my dues, was to change my template. Look at the right sidebar and see the I'm the NRA logo from an old membership drive.

I'm the NRA.

Pawpaw, get the "EPL Life Membership $750.00 (30 payments of $25)". I got my life membership like that back when it was $300 total, if I remember correctly.

I second j,

I paid my life dues quarterly for a few years, sending in my $25. Then I finally just paid off the last $100 or so early. I can't remember if my life membership was $300 or $250, but it's paid for.

I did have the 3 year option beforehand, because I didn't know about the installment plan either. I wonder why they don't advertise that option more?

This is the money quote. My thoughts exactly.

Sorry Nick, but I feel my membership in the ACLU is just as important as my membership in the NRA. If the ACLU offered a life membership, I'd have one in addition to my NRA life membership.

Lots of times I'm there with the ACLU, and lot's of times I'm not. It when them damn ACLUers fall to see stuff like "the right of the people" and "shall not be infringed", is when I swear I'll never send them a penny.

I suggest the EFF instead. For a while their slogan was unofficially "when privacy is outlawed, only outlaws will have privacy"

At this point being between jobs I re-up more than once a year rather than respond to fund-drives - like last weekend at the Gun Show, and doing that comp'd my show-entry.
My Grandpa was a Life-member, and my inheritance from him was a 30-40 Krag that got me started. My elderly parents are both long-time Leftwing Socialist activists, anti-gun, anti-war, pro ACLU, and don't talk about Grandpa's legacy - they would much rather see any money go anywhere else - but I'm proud of it and of him.
I also belong to my State organizations, CRPA, GOC and of GOA - I'm doing it for The Children. "When guns are outlawed there will be no privacy aywhere."
