Justification

I see that the news is awash with the tragic tale of a gal in Minnesota who was recently killed in an altercation with federal ICE officers in Minneapolis.

It's tragic.  The death of anyone is tragic.

In 37 years behind the badge, I was regularly trained on Use of Force during my yearly training.  It has become stenciled on my brain.  Louisiana law mirrors the law in much of the country.  Let's take a look at the law, shall we?  Louisiana Revised Statute 14:20 says in part:

A.  A homicide is justifiable:

(1)  When committed in self-defense by one who reasonably believes that he is in imminent danger of losing his life or receiving great bodily harm and that the killing is necessary to save himself from that danger.

There is nothing there that talks about the intent of the deceased. We cannot know what she was thinking, nor the state of her mind at the time of the incident.  All that is necessary is the perception of the officer that he was in danger of great bodily harm or death.

Her death is tragic, no doubt. We will never know what might have happened if the officer did not use deadly force.  It is a question we need not ask. You might note that in Louisiana, at least, there is no difference in the law between a sworn officer and a common citizen.  The justification is there for anyone to use.

I'm just saying.

I've seen the various videos of the event. My thought is that the driver of the car was focused on the officer beside the vehicle, not the officer in front of the car. Faced with possible threat of being detained, the driver CHOSE to drive away. The officer fired in self defense, killing her.

I have to laugh at Kurt's comment, heard that too.
This is what I was taught is "a tell". It's been said, suggested, folks, here's the proof: These 'people' we're dealing with? They're mentally on-par with children. Right here is the proof - they think they're LARP'ing (Live Action Role Playing). It's a game to them, not real-life.
    "You used real bullets?!"
Note the use of the word - "real". They're living in a make-believe pretend world (in more ways than one!). This is the prima facia evidence these people are mentally unfit as adults.
... This is the snowflake generation we watched growing up, and KNEW they were going to be all fucked up and completely unable to relate to the actual world. Remember that 20-years ago when all this nonsense started w/ that skidmark from Kenya? Welp, they all growed up now, and look at 'em. Die-job hair-do's from The Rocky Horror Picture Show - because to them this is all pretend, make believe, whatever they feel like that morning when they wake up because they've been told their entire lives they are special.
Grok how screwed we are as a nation that a huge percentage of kids from Gen Z onward are all screwed up in the head like this. Totally disconnected from reality. THAT's why we see them doing what they're doing. They're LARP'ing, not connected to the real world and real-world consequences at all.
