CC: Silent Wings - The American Glider Pilots of WW II
Glider troops during WWII. Something that few know about and most don't consider. But, they were an extremely useful and a big part of delivering troops to the battlefield.
It's almost two hours, so get a cup of coffee or another nice beverage.
Glider units were Airborne Infantry (and Artillery) regiments. The troops who actually jumped out of the planes were (and are) Parachute Infantry Regiments.
There were no Parachute Artillery Regiments. Or engineers, that I know of.
Glider troops also did not receive jump pay. I recall there being a song that played over the loudspeakers at Bragg during PT "The Pay is Still the Same" or something to that effect. Can't find it on any of the 82nd Airborne Chorus youtube videos, though.
