I have a buddy who needs a new pickup. Needs, as in his was totalled this past week. It seems that he can't find a new Chevy pickup anywhere. It seems that there is a global chip shortage that is playing havoc with pickup truck production.
GM isn’t the only automaker facing setbacks and even layoffs due to the shortage. In March, Ford said the chip shortage, along with weather conditions, left the company canceling shifts and building some vehicles without all their parts. Honda, Volkswagen, and Toyota have similarly warned of supply issues or reduced production in recent months.
Talking with the fellows in the club, it seems that everyone but me was aware of this. It's a good thing that I'm not in the market for a new pickup truck.
When you concentrate all the manufacturing in one location...
ReplyDeletePerhaps the computer chips in the crashed truck could be transferred to a replacement truck?
ReplyDeleteThe stockpile of no chip Ford trucks is so large you can see it from space

from what i learned, toyota is the only auto manufacturer that kept a 2-6 month supply of chips on hand...the reason you could still find their trucks for last couple of months...they must be out because you can't find a truck now and if you try to build one on their website, they don't offer any packages, just the truck and 3 colors...last i read, the chip shortage is expected to last until middle of next year, possibly first half of 2023...expect to pay new car prices for a used vehicle for a while...
ReplyDeleteI need s pickup for our Animal Rescue group in S. Texas. Needs a double cab, decent sized bed . Toe package etc. I found a dealership with 45 trucks !! 40 are short bed! 2 Are priced at over $50K.( May give a second look but higher than our non-profit wants to go) 1 is regular cab not double. 1 is high mileage. ( Yes we can add the toe package but bottom line is none of these really meets our needs. The older high mileage truck does the best but I hate spending that kind of money for a truck more than half dead. The told us if we even DID consider a new truck it could take 2-3 months).
ReplyDeleteI ordered a new Chevy Colorado P/U on January 12 this year. I finally got it on June 3rd. The shortage is real.
