People are asking, "What happens if Biden kicks the bucket?"
He will be the eldest president-elect in our nation's history, so that's a fair question.
In truth, we didn't elect Joe Biden. Each state chose a slate of electors who will meet in December to elect a president. We call that the Electoral College and each state has rules that govern their behavior.
If Biden dies in the time before the Electoral College, then presumably the electors from the various states will be free to vote their conscience. If Biden dies in the period between the Electoral College and the inauguration, then the 20th Amendment kicks in.
If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President.
I sincerely hope that the Biden presidency will be as ineffectual as Senate career, and that in four year we will have found a suitable constitutional candidate to run the country. The idea of a Harris presidency is too rim to even consider. My prayer at this point is that Biden lives through his term, suffers ignominious defeat in 2024 and retires into blissful obscurity.
If the republicans keep the senate they can cut him and old kneepads off at the knees.
