I probably go over these rules with folks half a dozen or more times most days. I add to rule 3 that the trigger finger should be straight and indexed along the frame or side of the slide, not just 'off the trigger'. Otherwise you see people thinking as long as their finger is not on the trigger it can remain inside the trigger guard. Or that resting on the outside of the trigger guard is OK - a sympathetic contraction of the hand can land that finger on the trigger with enough force in either case to fire the gun.

ReplyDeleteA 15 year old wannabe gang banger violated at least 3 of these rules and shot himself in the arm while driving through campus the other day.
ReplyDeleteFirst aid, including a tourniquet, was administered by police until EMS arrived.
