In several locations across the US, police departments are having a hard time under the corona virus dynamic. It's not their fault, but the simple fact is that the US is changing, and like other service agencies, they are playing catch-up.
This is why we have a 2nd Amendment.
The only person responsible for you safety is you.
I work for a (very) large public university. We had one of our patrol officers have to go into quarantine due to possible exposure. Since they didn't say anything about exposure at the PD itself, I'm assuming it's family or friend.
ReplyDeleteSo now we've gone to half manning on patrol shifts, with the other half on call if needed. I assume the reasoning is so that if there is on-shift exposure, we don't lose an entire shift at once to quarantine.
We'd already been told to lay off traffic enforcement unless they're actually driving dangerously (and I did make a DWI stop - dude was doing around 60 in a 40, using the left turn lane to pass the only other car on the road) and basically going reactive unless we see a crime in progress.
Now, since we're a university PD, and the university campus is largely shut down (no in person classes, events, etc), we can get away with this. Not sure how it works with city PDs and the SO.
