If you are afraid of government power, look what's going on right now. Our Governor, John Bel Edwards, in the great state of Louisiana, is restricting the freedom of everyone in Louisiana based on a public health emergency.
The one thing that government is learning right now is that freedom can easily be restricted based on a "public health emergency". Listen to his language and hear the words "order" and "compliance" and "restrict". I never thought that I would see the day in Louisiana where I was not free to go get a haircut, but that day is upon us.
I am outraged. Don't tell me it is the right thing to do. This much power should not be delegated to any one man. Not the governor, nor the president. After this is over, I an going to ask for an expansion of freedom commensurate with restrictions that were placed on us during this emergency.
If they can restrict freedom, they can damned sure expand it.
My sister lives in New Orleans. Double whammy. But she is one of the sheep, so...
ReplyDeleteI think we in Florida will be right behind you when it comes to quarantine. It is the only step the governor has not taken. No restaurants, despite their having taken precautions, and no elective medical. My dentist, predictably, equates elective with non-emergency. Closed. I had oral surgery scheduled. But the governor has spoken.
Now, in your heart you've GOT to know that once those politicians have seized and exercised that power there is no turning back. We will never peaceably recover those rights that have been taken from us. Never. I'd like to believe otherwise, but no.
Power is NEVER relinquished willingly.
ReplyDeleteI've not heard of a single emergency declaration with a sunset clause, expiration date or conditions that will remove it... Yes, we're gonna have to take our liberty back.
ReplyDeleteLawDog has an interesting take on the Italian Kung Flu death numbers, and why they may be considerably skewed.

@Termite: Yep, he hits it again. I saw that last link yesterday and almost fell out of the chair. MEs acting like one-eyed bean counters. After all is said and done, it comes down to how someone feels like reporting, shall we say lazily, the death. They may be doing autopsies without even opening the corpse! Look at the record -- lab says COVID-19 positive. Rubber stamp and "Next"!
