A Norwegian study has proven the obvious: women are more likely than men to regret having no-strings-attached sex. In order to find a reason behind this baffling statistic, the study asked nearly 800 people to fill out a survey to reveal their feelings about their last random sexual encounter. The study’s author, Dr. Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair (who has a lot of names for some reason), said the study suggests that “women are more worried than men about pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and their reputation.” Shocking!I hope that they didn't spend much government money on this bit of research.
In other obvious news:
Why More Men Than Ever View Marriage as a Bad DealI've been married twice and like the idea. I can't imagine NOT being married, but having said that, I can see why it's not right for a lot of men. Based on my observations, if a marriage goes bad, it's normally a lot harder financially on men than on women. The Courts traditionally are more apt to take the woman's side, and if the man is a stand-up-guy, a divorce can be financially devastating.
Besides, casual sex is pretty easy to find, (See the paragraph above). I can't tell women what to do about their quandary, but it seems to me that casual sex and marriage being a bad deal for men is somehow linked. Maybe we need another study. We either need a complete turn-around in societal mores, or individual women could conclude that casual sex is bad for their marital prospects.
I seem to recall seeing an snippet in one of my dad's old Playboys that someone once did a study to find out that floors coated with pig shit are slippery and cause falls.
ReplyDeleteReally? You don't say
Rampant and casual divorce are what's bad for women's marriage prospects.
ReplyDeleteEnd alimony completely, force both parties to ante in child support to a neutral third party and require the amounts from both partners be absolutely equal to the penny, and we can talk about marriage.
If you really wanted to fix it, require cause for divorce; if a no-fault is granted, both parties mandatorily walk away with half the assets generated during the union, half the liabilities accrued, all their own stuff acquired before the union, and nothing from the other partner going forward, ever.
Then the only reason to stay, or go, is because you want to, and there's not a dime in it for you either way.
Women want exclusivity, they're going to have to return loyalty.
Revoke one, lose the other.
Even steven for both parties.
When someone can take half your life's work because they got bored, it's a rigged system only a foolish man would ante into.
For those inevitable "But wait" comments, tell me how many women you'd hand your ATM card and PIN too, forever, with no chance of revocation.
That's what no-fault divorce, 90% settlements favoring the woman in every aspect, and endless rights of re-negotiation if they haven't cleaned you out enough after two, five, or ten trips to court have done to marriage.
Now, courts routinely even set aside pre-nups, which turns all contract law on its head.
So guys in huge numbers are dealing themselves out.
Casual sex and ease of replacement is the only thing keeping the game honest, at this point.
Women have figured out how to get all the benefits of a man without keeping him by filing for divorce (overwhelmingly, it's the woman who files.)
Men have returned the favor, by getting what they want without benefit of a ceremony, and no risk of getting filleted and broiled.
Women crying about that is like a crooked casino complaining that no one wants to play at their tables.
