Bullying is a problem as old as mankind, with new twists as technology advances and people change. And, the state requires that school personnel get training on combating bullying once a year.
That's what I'm doing today. Bullying Awareness and Prevention. It's a compelling subject, which is why so many people sleep thru it. And I'm an instructor. I feel like there's a little cord in my back. They wind me up, pull the cord, and words come out of my mouth. I feel like a Chatty Cathy doll.
Question: Should repeated PowerPoint presentations be considered bullying, or just harassment?
LOL...Both!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how many thousands (Okay, maybe just hundreds) of those 'ethics' sessions I sat through before I retired but I still cringe at the memories.

My company does this sort of annual mandated posturing via a website - you can choose your own time, do it at your own pace (and blaze through it quite rapidly if you're a fast reader), or do it over the course of several days. Still an annoyance, but it meets the legal requirements without wasting huge amounts of time and productivity.
ReplyDeleteI can see doing this sort of thing ONCE as a live presentation. Or even requiring new employees to sit through it ONCE. But I somehow doubt anyone capable of benefiting from the training in the first place needs annual reminders on How Not To Be A Jerk or How To Tell When Kids Are Acting Nasty.
Mental cruelty, methinks.

Nap time is what 'I' call it! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think repeated powerpoint violates the Geneva Conventions on torture.
