It's been a while since I posted a Sunday Dawg, but the dog is doing well, getting older, a little slower, and he's still deathly afraid of thunderstorms.
Yesterday afternoon, we got one heck of a thunder-bumper on our acre. The dog, of course, didn't know what to do, so eventually he decided to lie on the kitchen floor and shiver in abject fear. It was quite heart-rending.
It's hard to console a little dog who is inconsolable.
Had a Belgian Shepherd that was that way, terrified to death of thunder and fireworks of any kind. He would chew the knob clean off the door to get in the house if he was stuck outside and we were not home. We used medicate him with Valium when storms or fireworks came about. I now hear tell that many dogs with such anxiety are often calmed by wearing a tightly fitting garment of sorts. They now make a vest just for that purpose. They sell it under the name "Thundershirt". You might want to look in to it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we've tried the Thundershirt. It was a no-go. Didn't help a bit. He's just a skeered little dawg. Gunfire, firewrorks, thunder, even a basketball bouncing. Skeered to death.
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks like he got his summer trim too!
