So, go read Sarah Hoyt, When Men Hoist the Pirate Flag.
Chivalry and the code thereof was the laying down of those good reproductive (and civilizational) rules that make for a functioning society that passes on its values to its young: men who put their strength at the service of the weaker; women who praised them and admired them for it; and children who were raised to do the same.Chivalry was a code of conduct between men and women, and required as much from women as it did from men. It wasn't about holding doors open.
Chivalry, and courtesy, was invented because kings got very tired of having their best, and proudest, war commanders killing each other off.
ReplyDeleteChivalry and courtesy are rules that make it possible for POWERFUL, PROUD people can work harmoniously together to achieve noble ends. It was not invented for wimps. It was invented for POWERFUL, PROUD, WARRIORS.
But I guess if you are a wimp, a weakling or worthless, then I can understand why you would not need to be courteous or know anything about chivalry.
I dunno if it's that simple. I'm 69 and have three, count 'em, three fistfights. The first I lost because I mistakenly thought tehere were ruled. the last two I won in spaded because I fought until I had beat the living shit out of my opponents, then when they were down I continued kicking them until they could not respond. The last fight ended when I pulled the fishing priest out of my pack and beat my opponent with it until he could not see for the blood runnung in his eyes and could not use hil arms because he had two broken elbows and was in some serious pain because took the priest and beat his nuts to a pulp.
ReplyDeleteNot one of them or their gang brothers was ever even impolite to me again. As I remember I was about 15 or 16 at the time and just plain got tired of being bullied.
I have never left the house unarmed since either. I carry an assisted opening knife with a 4 1/2" blade and since attaining majority, a sidearm. An armed society is a polite society.
