Forty Years

One small step for a man.

Where was I when Neal Armstrong took that first step?

Like everyone else, I was home watching it on television. I was fifteen years old and had faithfully followed all of the space program. I wouldn't have missed that telecast for anything.

  1. Sometime during that era my elderly aunt--circa 45 years old--and I were watching a TV newscast about the moon landing. It was raining heavily outside and thunder rolled. She turned her face from the TV to me and said, seriously: "We didn't have weather like this before they started sendin' up them danged ol' rockets."

  2. I was 18 and sitting in a bar in Rome... sigh... to be young and idealistic again...
