In the northern hemisphere the 'da...Incorrect. In the northern hemisphere the 'dangerous semi-circle' of a storm is to the east, or more specifically, the northeast. And, it is more than a few degrees; depending upon geography, the strength of the storm, and other things, you could survive the storm passage completely unscathed while your neighbor down the road has suffered severe damage.
