When I ran for the city council 10 years ago I was frequently asked about my position on alcohol. My consistent reply was that I personally do not want to see the spread of alcohol or access eased, but that this issue should be decided by the people, not by the council. I stand behind that position and I believe the people will be voting on the issue soon.NathanMartinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11164295169232460427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12389938.post-55047086326068289592013-03-27T21:19:56.187-05:002013-03-27T21:19:56.187-05:00Oh man, THAT is going to be a dogfight!Oh man, THAT is going to be a dogfight!Old NFOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16404197287935017147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12389938.post-41792022598060324972013-03-27T12:59:06.223-05:002013-03-27T12:59:06.223-05:00I also note that often the more vocal opponents of...I also note that often the more vocal opponents of alcohol sales occasionally use the "sin of drunkenness" argument.
Judging from their girths, some of them are guilty of the sin of gluttony........

Pot, meet kettle.Termitenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12389938.post-41971753750689987202013-03-27T12:51:19.737-05:002013-03-27T12:51:19.737-05:00The hardcore Southern Baptist and Pentecostal crow...The hardcore Southern Baptist and Pentecostal crowd is going to fight this bitterly. The fact that this is ONLY about having a vote seems to not matter to them. They don't even want it coming to a vote.

When it was last voted on in 1980, blatant electioneering against alcohol sales was occurring at a couple of voter precincts on election day, in direct violation of voting laws; in particular, the Ruby/Kolin area.

For years, Tyler, TX had a restaurant-only alcohol sales policy, and it seemed to work for them. That area of Texas is doing well, and has been for quite a while.Termitenoreply@blogger.com
