Rebrand, Refresh

I see that Cracker Barrel is going through a rebrand.  The internet is going crazy, which is to say that it is just another day on the internet.

I've always liked Cracker Barrel.  It was a roadside standard, like McDonalds or Popeye's.  You knew what you were getting. Lunch served on a plate rather than a cardboard box.  Belle liked walking through the gift shop.  Looking at the shirts.  All I cared about was the meatloaf and the mashed potatoes.

But, it is fun watching the internet go crazy.  On both sides.

Now, if you will excuse me, I have Saturday to get to.  About 20 shooters will show up in an hour, and I have to get the range ready.

Cracker Barrel had a good thing going. You would think they would have learned from the Bud Light fiasco. but "stupid is as stupid does"...

  3. I think Cracker Barrel is in a bad way. Their main target customers are either moving to the city, or dieing of old age or both. Their brand as it is currently probably doesnt really have any meaning to over 50% of the people under 50. It's all folksy and everything. It doesn't look like anything that means anything to a younger city crowd. Likewise the menu is tired and the last time I was there the quality was down. It felt like in some areas they were cutting corners on quality AND portion size.

  5. Used to be target stops when on the road and I did a LOT of travel between 2000 and 2014. I and others traveling with me began to see changes little by little, however. There is a CB 1/2 mile from my house and we haven't be there in years. Their rebranding unfortunately seals the avoidance for me. Are these supposedly knowledgeable business leaders coming from under rocks?

  6. Business 101—know your customer base. It's pretty evident they don't.

  7. On thing is for certain: The biggest problem I saw with the place before was long wait times to get a table. They have fixed that!
