But, corruption doesn't often remain silent forever, and in the last several days we've seen some interesting developments in this four-year-old case. Politico is reporting that a federal judge has struck down the executive privilege claim and ordered that the documents be released to Congress.
A federal judge has rejected President Barack Obama's assertion of executive privilege to deny Congress access to records pertaining to Operation Fast and Furious, a gunrunning probe that allegedly allowed thousands of weapons to flow across the border into Mexico.
U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled Tuesday that the Justice Department's public disclosures about its response to the so-called "gun walking" controversy undercut Obama's executive privilege claim. In other words, they were running their mouths about it, and now executive privelige no longer applies. If you want to keep a secret, then don't talk about it.
The second interesting development that came out in the case is being reported by Fox News.
A .50-caliber rifle found at Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman’s hideout in Mexico was funneled through the gun-smuggling investigation known as Fast and Furious, sources confirmed Tuesday to Fox News.
Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News that ‘El Chapo’ would put his guardsmen on hilltops to be on guard for Mexican police helicopters that would fly through valleys conducting raids. The sole purpose of the guardsmen would be to shoot down those helicopters, sources said.I don't know that this should come as a surprise to anyone. Those rifles were originally sold to be used by drug cartels and several of the weapons have turned up, being used by... drug cartels. Go figure.
With Hillary under investigation for her email security issues, and Holder in trouble over Fast and Furious, it will be interesting to see what happens when a strong prosecutor starts connecting dots. The new president, whoever he may be, might spend his first couple of years in office prosecuting Obama administration officials. The more we see of his administration, the more it appears to be a lawless organization, The RICO prosecutions might last for years.
