The Republican Debate

Did any of you watch the Republican Debate last night? Me neither. It's too early in the process for me to worry about it much. I'll get to pull a lever at some point, but until then, I'm not worried about it.

However, if there is anything I'm looking for in a politician, it is simply one who will treat me with benign neglect. Just leave me alone. Don't try to take my money, don't tell me what kind of lightbulbs to buy. Don't restrict my choice on toilets, don't tell me what kind of fuel economy my vehicle should be getting. In particular, don't tell Exxon/Mobile/Chevron where they can and can't drill for oil or gas.

IN short, I'm looking for a guy who'll simply get the hell out of the way. Stay in Washington, throw parties for visiting dignitaries and leave me alone.

The President is going to get on TV tonight and talk about job creation. I'll bet a dollar against a donut that he'll talk about the rich paying their fair share. The only problem is that the rich do pay their fair share. The folks who don't pay their fair share are the 40% of Americans on the bottom of the ladder who don't pay anything at all. Let them pay their fair share and the US will have plenty of money. Let the US quit spending money on nonsense like Energy loans and the government will have plenty of money. Let the US government return to the rigid, strict spending principles laid out in the Constitution and they'll have plenty of money.

I want a President who'll limit himself to the letter of the Constitution and just leave me the hell alone.

Sounds like we like Ike.

+1 isn't enough for this post. How about +100? I'd certainly love some benign neglect from the government.

Your last sentence negated the need for me to add anything. Damn straight.
