Shutdown looms

I see that the Federal Government is approaching a deadline, after which the government will shut down. I'm told that our President is holding the troops hostage, withholding their pay until the budget battle is decided.

I was on active duty during the Carter years. The government shut down six times between 1977 and 1980. We always got paid. There is no reason to withhold military pay except as a crass political move. Which means that our President is a crass politician.

If you're wondering what the problem is with the budget, that's simple. The Constitution requires a budget and it must originate in the House of Representatives. The budget we're arguing about now should have been passed for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2010. At that time, the Democrats controlled the House, the Senate and the White House. They had plenty of time to get it done, but just couldn't seem to get around to it. Now that the Republicans are in the House, they're trying to clean up the mess and the Democrats don't want to play. And of course, our President is playing politics with the military.

Crass politicians. A pox on them all.

The president isn't playing politics with the military. He's simply preparing the stage to be able to say, I told you so. The Republicans are about to pee themselves in happiness over shutting down the government. I say cut the deck and let the cards fall where they may. When Tea Party members have to go to nursing homes and get their grandmas we'll see some changes.

Tax refunds will be delayed, I hear. I have to pay the IRS this year, instead of a refund. Does a shutdown mean I get the extra days added to the Apr 15 deadline? No? I didn't think so.

With only a few exceptions, the whole Congress are a bunch of wankers, Dem and GOP alike.

Piss on 'em. And that includes Rodney.

Yep, that includes Turncoat Rodney and especially Cathouse Dave.

I have no love for Vitter. Nor Landrieu, nor Alexander. For that matter, Jindal is a wash in my book.

Unfortunately, politicians run the country and only politicians get elected to office. No self-respecting person will put themselves through the elective process, so we wind up with people who have no self-respect.
